Tancredo Trails Top Dems by Double Digits
Rasmussen Reports ^ | August 29, 2007 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 08/29/2007 9:24:15 AM PDT by Kuksool

GOP Congressman Tom Tancredo has a lot of catching up to do. The first Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey gauging support for Tancredo's long-shot presidential candidacy shows him trailing New York Senator Hillary Clinton by thirteen percentage points. He also trails Illinois Senator Barack Obama by seventeen.

The poll shows Clinton with a 50% to 37% advantage while Obama tops Tancredo 48% to 31%. Other long-shot Republicans have proved more competitive in match-ups with Clinton than Tancredo. The former First Lady has never managed double-digit leads in any Rasmussen Reports match-up between her and Sam Brownback, Mike Huckabee, or Chuck Hagel. Only Ron Paul fares worse against Clinton than Tancredo, trailing her 34% to 49% in a July survey.

Question for Frepperville - If illegal immigration is such an important issue and Tancredo is a true conservative, then why does he trail poorly against Hillary?

I'm curious what the Rudybots will have to say about that...

I would imagine that most Americans have never heard of Tom Tancredo...that may be hard for some FReepers to believe...but the reality is that most Americans don't follow news or politics at all and all polls at this point are more about name recognition than anything else

Tancredo has low name recognition. He is well within the second tier of the GOP. A fair poll would put Tancredo against, say, Chris Dodd or Joe Biden.

It's called 'name recognition'.

But you already knew that....

Pardon me, maybe I misinterpreted your sarcasm, but aren’t you always calling for nuking Iran and posting a map of the Middle East with Iran replaced by a large lake?

ALL the Republicans trail Hillary and Bill.

So-called “americans” want Hillary Care.

Real Americans do not, and we are the minority.

Where are those name recognition polls?

OK, found one (from 5 days ago): http://politicalwire.com/archives/2007/08/24/name_recognition.html

The majority of Americans are only familiar with Clinton, Obama, Giuliani, Edwards, and McCain.

I think Tancredo is polling quite well here. Did I read that correctly? Clinton 50, Tancredo 37?? That is remarkable and it looks to me as if Tancredo could win. Thirteen points more than a year before the election is not all that huge of a margin. Obviously Tancredo is a long shot at best to get nominated but when even a “second tier” Republican trails Hillary by only 13, then it indicates she is not invincible.

Tom Tancredo does not really want to be president. He just wants to make sure that everybody running for president talks about immigration.

He is a "Message Candidate."

If he did want to be president he would be campaigning differently.

Tancredo was on Fox & Friends a few weeks ago. He looked like he slept in the suit he was wearing, tie was askew, top shirt button, unbuttoned, rumpled and wrinkled, and hardly looked anything like presidential.

As many campaigns as I have watched and worked, the bottom line for any of them has been, look good even when you are trashed. Appearance is everything.

Unfortunately, he comes a cross as a one-trick pony.

But all one has to do is go to his website and/or review his positions/votes on other issues and you’ll find that Tancredo is a true conservative.

It’s unfortunate that the MSM only talks about the celebrity candidates and it’s unfortunate that the new media tends to play into that realm as well.

Despite his lack of funds. I believe that both Tancredo and Hunter could go along way towards winning the primary if some big national names in the conservative media would have to courage to stand up for true conservative priciples and the candidates that embody them.

Also, if somehow Tanredo did win the nomination he would be instantly thrust into to the limelight and every American would know him. By day two of the campaign the polls would read Clinto 50% Tancredo 50%

then it indicates that ...

the polls at this time are worthless as polls, but do play a fine part in the esclating, never ending MSM drumbeat of Hillary!

Wait until next year with now twice daily polls breathlessly announcing endless drivel that signifies nothing at all, but does keep Hillary! front and center on the news.

That's a nice way to look at it.

Remember that after Howard Dean's maccaca moment, Dems were stampeded into supporting John Kerry because polls showed a war hero could beat Bush. In fact, even after the truth came out, their horsecrap candidate was actually competitive with Hollyweird and the enemedia working overtime for him.

Actually it's the Persian Sea, not a "large lake." Of course it's semi-sarcasm, as it would be totally impossible to do.
