Top Democrat vows to block possible Bush nominee

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid vowed on Wednesday to block former Solicitor General Theodore Olson from becoming attorney general if President George W. Bush nominates him to replace Alberto Gonzales.

Congressional and administration officials have described Olson as a leading contender for the job as the nation's chief U.S. law enforcement officer, but Reid declared: "Ted Olson will not be confirmed" by the Senate.

"He's a partisan, and the last thing we need as an attorney general is a partisan," Reid told Reuters in a brief hallway interview on Capitol Hill.

Earlier in the day, White House press secretary Tony Snow, amid word that Bush was nearly ready to pick a new attorney general, told reporters, "We don't have a decision yet."

Bring it on, Reid. I want to see him deny a floor vote to a former long-term, well-regarded, eminently qualified Solicitor General on what Reid ADMITS are political grounds.

It’s time the GOP stop playing nice with Dirty Harry and just hammer this little scumbag.

You are going to look real good Harry slaming a man that lost his wife on 9/11. Oh, I forgot, 9/11 is a distant concept to you and your party.

Go for it, little man. Go for it, man.

So many Democrat fund raising scandals so little time. What else could it be. Hsu fly don’t bother me, says dirty harry reid. Hey, he might even look into a shady land deal or two out west.

Recess appoint works for me. The dim hunting season is open. Without Schumers protector in the AG’s office, it will be a good season.

WSJ is looking more and more like the newspaper of record.

Go crawl back under your slimy rock, Reid. I remember you in Las Vegas on the gaming commission. You were a wimp then and you are a wimp now.

Entirely expected.

Alberto was a truly lousy attorney general, completely incompetent, and not partisan enough, at least from a conservative point of view. But it’s too bad he decided to step down, because there isn’t a chance in hades that Bush will be able to confirm a decent replacement during the remainder of his term.

The left wing of the party is slavering for impeachment, and the first step toward that would be to put their own leftist in as attorney general, as they succeeded in doing with Nixon. Hopefully Bush understands that scenario and won’t agree.

Yessir, let's bring back that old nonpartisan Janet Reno.

I like that scenario. Don’t they have a Thanksgiving recess coming up in a while? I say go through the process. Reveal Democrats for the inept partisan bullies they are. Then when he is voted down make a recess appointment that will last nearly to the end of Bush’s term.

Maybe that is Bush’s game plan. He must have known the weasel Reid would act like an ass and flat out block Olson.
