Top Democrat vows to block possible Bush nominee

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid vowed on Wednesday to block former Solicitor General Theodore Olson from becoming attorney general if President George W. Bush nominates him to replace Alberto Gonzales.

Congressional and administration officials have described Olson as a leading contender for the job as the nation's chief U.S. law enforcement officer, but Reid declared: "Ted Olson will not be confirmed" by the Senate.

"He's a partisan, and the last thing we need as an attorney general is a partisan," Reid told Reuters in a brief hallway interview on Capitol Hill.

Earlier in the day, White House press secretary Tony Snow, amid word that Bush was nearly ready to pick a new attorney general, told reporters, "We don't have a decision yet."

Reid is an ass.

ted Olson is 1000 times more intelligent than Harry Reid and outclasses him in every respect other than Reid’s ability to bloviate and be generally useless.

That's why Bush should have announced it yesterday, so Reid can explain why someone who lost his wife on 9/11 can't be AG.

Sounds like a recess appointment is called for. When is the next holiday?

Bring it on, Reid. I want to see him deny a floor vote to a former long-term, well-regarded, eminently qualified Solicitor General whose wife, Barbara K. Olson, died on 9/11 in the plane that hit the Pentagon on what Reid ADMITS are political grounds.

With your indulgence.

Before her death Mrs. Olson posted frequently on FR as BKO.

I can’t wait for the Senate interrogation. I’m sure Ted Olson is more than up to it.

"DEMOCRATS BLOCK 9/11 WIDOWER'S  AG NOMINATION,  TO PROTECT TERRORISTS!"

REID (D-NV) says "Personal loss would require Olson to recuse himself from all terrorist related work!!"

"you dumbass from Searchlight, Nevada! "

And Searchlight is a stretch. For one Searchlight isn't even a town, it is an "entity" administered by Clark County. For another, the Dingy Harry lived on a ranch, a small piece of desert, out in the county somewhere.

Plain ol' kangaroo rat is a better description.

If God forbid Hillary wins next year, then EVERY ONE of her nominees should get filibustered. Shut down DC! Make her non-legitimate for four full years.

I had heard that Bush and Reid have an agreement to not make recess appointments. Don’t know what Bush got in return, though.

Good description.

I saw a cartoon once with a drawing of Dingy and the caption “The Searchlight is on but nobody’s home.”
