Police Release 9 Threatening Postcards
OCALA, Fla. -- Investigators in Marion County, Fla., are searching for the author of nine postcards sent to different schools on the same day with the words 'Jihad-Boom" and handwritten cartoons of a building apparently exploding with people inside.
Investigators released the postcards with the threatening drawings on them Monday in hopes of generating leads in the case.
Officials said that the postcards are made up of various and traditional themes, and each one has a distinctive hand-drawn cartoon on it. Several of the threats arrived on postcards featuring Walt Disney World.
Detectives said the threat-maker crossed his or her No. 7s and attached a suffix to the address. Six of the nine postcards spell the word "Jihad" correctly, while the others are incorrect.
The U.S. Postal Service said that the postcards were all mailed to the schools from the Ocala-Gainesville mailing district before the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
A $10,000 reward has been issued to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for using the postal service to mail the threatening postcards to schools.

I’m fully aware of the threads from 2001, having been an active FReeper since 1998. I’m just saying that the image on that calendar is not of the 9/11 attacks, but of the Egypt Air flight that you reference. The calendar may hint at the 9/11 attacks, but they don’t directly portray them.
The Battle of Tours happened on 10/10.
Isn’t that something - eerie
Sorry, I didn’t recognize your name. You’ve been here as long as I have!
While I think it’s great to have new people joining FR all the time, there’s a special comradery amongst us “old timers.” :-)
That’s for sure. ;)
Young American born Muslim Kid,possibly not well liked at school, not doing to well in his subject matter especially spelling, possibly black or possibly of middle eastern or south Asian roots. Just doing what he is taught to do at the Mosque.
just a thought.
Possibly. Maybe a convert or a wannabe.
I am a teacher in Marion County, Florida. I don’t know what disturbs me more — a threat to the schools in my home county, or seeing the situation ‘chit-chatted’ about on a forum like this. I don’t think ‘chit chat’ is appropriate when it comes to fighting terrorism, or dealing with what appears to be a well-thought out plan by radical Islamists to disrupt not just our country, but our very souls.
More than a week has gone by with no new ‘word’ about these postcards. Yes, we had a number of bogus threats in our school system last spring, right after the situation at Virginia Tech. Every ‘perp’ was a kid, every kid was caught.. and every kid got some pretty appropriate consequences. The kids were floored that their ‘jokes’ would bring about such consequences, but hey, they have to grow up sometimes.
I’m bothered by the 10 - 10. Perhaps it signifies a date... perhaps the intended date for some kind of attack. We have speculated for years that Al Qaida might go for our schools.. small towns in the ‘heartland’.. rather than big landmarks in big cities. Hitting us that way might make our hearts bleed even more than a large strike, like the one of Sept. 11th.
I’m also nervous... if this was a ‘joke’ done by children or childish adults, why is no one bragging about this to their friends? THings like this seldom go un-talked-about by teenagers (or preteens even) They have to tell somebody, to ensure the maximum mileage on their ‘fun’. Kids don’t ALL take such things seriously, but by now someone would have hooked up to the rumor mill and gotten a lead or two, at least, if this was the work of students.
Whatever is happening in the investigation (if anything) they are keeping a lid on it thus far. I’m glad of this — becuase it’s possible that exposure would bring on fear and panic.. and as long as we are afraid, the terrorists win.

Thanks.
Bump for those of us following this here in FL :(
