I just can’t believe anyone buys what he’s selling.

It’s so transparent.

I strongly suspect Romney’s vocal base consists of Mormons who support him because he’s Mormon -— which I understand. Mormons are good people, motivated to do good works, and stick together. I admire all these qualities, and it is natural for a group to support its own.

But Romney is a wolf among sheep, misleading this conservative group.

>>It is impossible to make a valid argument against your post.

Not really.

Clip one talks about gun control. Romney holds the same view as Reagan on this one. Reagan signed the Brady Bill and suported the Assault Weapon Ban. In Calif. as Gov. he signed a law restricting the carrying of guns in public places. Now Reagan also did a lot for gun owners in his presidency. Romney has done the same. The law he signed in Mass. loosened gun laws. It was endorsed by the NRA-ILA and praised by the GOA executive president. It just did not go all the way (just like Reagen didn't). Reagan made a fine President and I believe Romney will as well. (Incidentally I am to the right of Reagan and Romney on guns.)

Clip two and three are harder to watch admittedly. But it comes down to a fundamental question. Has Romney truly converted to pro-life or not? I believe he has. Sen Jim Demint (SC) one of the Nations best pro-life advocates believes his conversion on the issue as well as do many other pro-life groups. He has admitted his mistake on it. So if your argument is that he is lying about his conversion how are you going to prove that? The burden on you is to prove that he has not converted. His acts as Governor are pro-life. Are you saying you have some inside information or hidden source about his actions since his conversion?

The rest of the post mentions other social issues. Unmarked Package's homepage answers all these easily.

Where you really lose credibilty though is on the economic front. Romney is the best in the GOP on this front. Except RP of course ;-) (But like RP, Romney did not take a salary for his Governorship.)

The RNC slugs gave us Nixon, Ford, Dole and GH. Bland, slow moving, not populist but corporatist. All tinkers at the margins of free enterpise and domestic liberty, at best. The RNC fought Goldwater and Reagan.

Good for Mitt. Nice bolo Boy Scout badge for grinding.

I have no idea who the Republican nominee will be and I suspect that whoever it is I will be voting for him over the Hildabeast. However, this primary is gearing up to be one of the best and hardest fought in the party's history. They should sell tickets to this show.

Nevertheless, I just hope that whoever survives and is the nominee will not be so bloodied and bruised that they can't give Hilda the beating she so richly deserves.

A few other endorsements:

Wendy Long ( former clerk of Justice Clarence Thomas):
"Our country faces a new generation of challenges, which has presented our courts with a new generation of legal issues. As Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney witnessed firsthand the impact our courts can have when facing these new challenges. I believe that he, better than any other candidate for President, understands the need for our courts to respect democracy and the will of the people. I believe that he, better than any other candidate for President, would nominate judges and justices of the highest caliber, who would be faithful to the text, history, and principles of our Constitution. I look forward to working with the Governor."

Sen. Jim DeMint:
I believe that he is exactly the leader America needs to secure our future. Americans are tired of the same old ideas that keep coming out of Washington. They are hungry for a leader who will draw on America’s strength. I would like Governor Romney to know that key Republicans like you want him to run for President. http://www.humanevents.com/rightangle/index.php?id=19396&title=jim_demint_s_letter_endorsing_mitt_romne

Sheriff Joe Arpaio - Maricopa County, Arizona:
"I like him," Arpaio said of Mitt Romney. "He's a man of principle, of good character. He did a great job in Massachusetts and I feel he's going to make a great president." "I'm sure the governor believes in my philosophy too," Arpaio said. "He sure would not be asking for my endorsement if he didn't believe in what I'm doing." (Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio Tells FOX News Why Mitt Romney Picked

Kay Granger -- Highest Ranking Republican Woman In The House Of Representatives
"Governor Romney is a proven leader and natural problem solver. He has demonstrated the ability to turn problems into successes. As Americans, we need his leadership in Washington. He is the only candidate to demonstrate that he has a strategy to make America stronger by returning to our core conservative principles that have made this country so great. I am proud to join his campaign."

James Bopp. Jr.:
I believe that Governor Romney is the best qualified person for President. He is a fiscal and social conservative, he has impressive administrative experience in the private, non-profit and public sectors, and he is a proven and successful politician.

Lt. Gov. Bolling:
"Mitt Romney also has the right vision for the future of our country. We can trust him to keep America safe at home by defeating the Jihadists abroad; and keep America strong by reigning in government spending, keeping taxes low, protecting the values we believe in, and confronting head on the new generation of challenges currently facing our nation."

Lou Sheldon, head of the Traditional Values Coalition:
"When I give my support for a candidate, I am giving the green light, if he wins, all the way down the line in terms of so many moral and social issues...My thinking is that Mitt Romney is a person with the experience and with the Jude[o-]Christian moral values,” Sheldon told CBN’s David Brody, adding that he’d “been around Mormons long enough to know that … they are sincere about” Jesus.

Other religious-right activists on Romney’s committee include Jay Sekulow, Gary Marx, Christian Coalition board member Drew McKissic, Jay Sekulow’s son Jordan, anti-immigration writer James Edwards, and leaders or activists associated with the Alliance Defense Fund, Iowa Christian Alliance (formerly the Christian Coalition of Iowa), Heartbeat International, Legacy Law Foundation, and Citizens for Traditional Values.

yes, and Reagan was too hollywood too, I guess?...Fred is more steady with his conservatism than Romney. I think Romney is really good but does waver and say different things to different groups which isn’t good. The recent gafe on making abortion illegal is one example. He stated that it should be a states rights issue in one interview and then said he would support a national ammendment to outlaw abortion. What’s up?

Frankly given what the RNC has brought on the party, I’m not sure this is such a great thing.

Yes, publically pointing out that Romney miraculously turned into a conservative upon running for office -— by pointing out FACTS like his sudden joining of the NRA two weeks before annoucing he was running -— is being a liar and a coward.

I have no doubt you are a conservative and true in your beliefs; but it is equally clear you are being mislead by a very, very slick huckster from MA who is whispering sweet nothings to you.

“So if your argument is that he is lying about his conversion how are you going to prove that? The burden on you is to prove that he has not converted. “

You have that back wards, Romney has to convince us that he is not a lying opportunist that changes his positions, depending on which election he is running in.

I don’t have any burdens in regards to the Romney campaign, but I do watch the score cards and he isn’t convincing very many of us.

His actions speak loudly. Just a few of them follow.

Now what proof do you have he is lying and really plans to promote abortion once President? Waiting patiently....

Abortion and Sanctity of Life

Governor Romney was presented with legislation concerning life issues on several occasions from the 85% majority Democrat Legislature in Massachusetts. In every instance he took the pro-life position by vetoing bills or lobbying for the pro-life approach, including the following actions:

He vetoed the bill providing state funding for human embryonic stem cell research (Theo Emery, "Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney Vetoes Stem Cell Bill," The Associated Press, 5/27/05)

He vetoed a bill that provided for the "morning after pill" without a prescription because it is an abortifacient and would have been available to minors without parental notification and consent (Governor Mitt Romney, Op-Ed, "Why I Vetoed The Contraception Bill," The Boston Globe, 7/26/05)

He vetoed legislation which would have redefined Massachusetts longstanding definition of the beginning of human life from fertilization to implantation (Governor Mitt Romney, Letter To The Massachusetts State Senate And House Of Representatives, 5/12/05)

He supported parental notification laws and opposed efforts to weaken parental involvement (John McElhenny, "O'Brien And Romney Spar In Last Debate Before Election," The Associated Press, 10/29/02)

He fought to promote abstinence education in public school classrooms with a program offered by faith-based Boston group Healthy Futures to middle school students. Gov. Romney's administration was the first in Massachusetts to use federal abstinence education funds for classroom programs. (Office Of Governor Mitt Romney, Romney Announces Award of Abstinence Education Contract, April 20, 2006)

Governor Romney: "Times of decision are moments of great clarity. Before I was Governor, the life issue was just that, an issue. But when responsibility for life or ending life was placed in my hands, I made the right decision. I chose life." (Governor Mitt Romney's Remarks At The National Right To Life Convention Forum, June 15, 2007)

Eight prominent leaders of pro-life and pro-family groups in Massachusetts wrote an open letter praising Gov. Romney for his leadership and accomplishments in these important issues and attesting to his commitment to the pro-life and pro-family causes. (This letter is a MUST READ)

Massachusetts Citizens for Life recently gave Gov. Romney their 2007 Mullins Award for Outstanding Political Leadership presented at the Mother's Day Pioneer Valley Dinner where Romney delivered the keynote speech.

Ann Romney serves as co-chairman of the Massachusetts Citizens for Life capital campaign.

Massachusetts Citizens For Life Executive Director Marie Sturgis: "Having Governor Romney in the corner office for the last four years has been one of the strongest assets the pro-life movement has had in Massachusetts." (Kathryn Jean Lopez, "An Early Massachusetts Primary," National Review, 1/10/07)

Massachusetts Citizens For Life Pioneer Valley Chapter Chairman Kevin Jourdain: "Mitt Romney was a great Governor, who served with honor and distinction. But most importantly, he was a pro-life Governor. He vetoed a number of pro-abortion pieces of legislation and made many pro-life appointments. He was always there for us." (Kevin Jourdain, Remarks, Agawam, MA, 5/10/07)

Governor Romney has received the important endorsement of James Bopp, Jr., a nationally-known attorney and leading advocate for the pro-life movement. Jim Bopp reviewed Romney's record as Governor and questioned him personally before giving Romney his endorsement. Bopp most recently joined the Romney Presidential campaign as a special adviser on life issues, an unpaid position.

Bopp wrote about the record of Gov. Romney,

"These actions as governor have lead leaders of the most important social conservative groups in Massachusetts, including Massachusetts Citizens for Life, Massachusetts Family Institute, and the Knights of Columbus, to observe that, while previous comments by Romney “are, taken by themselves, obviously worrisome to social conservatives including ourselves, they do not dovetail with the actions of Governor Romney from 2003 until now — and those actions positively and demonstrably impacted the social climate of Massachusetts.” They conclude that Romney “demonstrat[ed] [his] solid social conservative credentials by undertaking” these actions, and has therefore “proven that he shares our values, as well as our determination to protect them.” (The Best Choice Is Also a Good Choice - Why social conservatives should support Mitt Romney for president, National Review Online, Feb. 21, 2007)

Governor Romney believes Roe v. Wade should be overturned as a first step, allowing the States to set abortion policy, as a goal that can be achieved more quickly. For a longer range goal after overturning Roe v. Wade, he supports a Human Life Amendment to the Constitution and endorses legislation to make it clear that the 14th Amendment's protections apply to unborn children. Romney believes that controversial abortion policy should be decided through the democratic process by citizens in the several states and their elected representatives rather than by federal judicial mandate.

Governor Romney: "I understand that my views on laws governing abortion set me in the minority in our Commonwealth. I am prolife. I believe that abortion is the wrong choice except in cases of incest, rape, and to save the life of the mother. I wish the people of America agreed, and that the laws of our nation could reflect that view. But while the nation remains so divided over abortion, I believe that the states, through the democratic process, should determine their own abortion laws and not have them dictated by judicial mandate." ("Why I vetoed contraception bill", Boston Globe Op-Ed, July 26, 2005)

Gov. Romney Praised The Decision Upholding A Partial-Birth Abortion Ban. "Today, our nation's highest court reaffirmed the value of life in America by upholding a ban on a practice that offends basic human decency. This decision represents a step forward in protecting the weakest and most innocent among us." (Gov. Mitt Romney, "Statement On Supreme Court's Partial Birth Abortion Ruling," Press Release, 4/18/07)

View video of a portion of a speech delivered by Mitt Romney at the National Review Institute Conservative Summit in which he describes a pivotal event in his life while learning about stem cell research and embryo farming from Harvard research scientists. From a researcher's comment explaining that there wasn't a moral issue at stake in the embryo farming process because the embryos are destroyed after 14 days, Romney was hit hard by the harsh realization that, in his words, "We have so cheapened the value and sanctity of human life in our society that someone could think there is not a moral issue because we kill human embryos at 14 days." Gov. Romney publicly affirmed his pro-life position thereafter.

It's not a gaffe. A National Amendment has to be raised by a majority of the states. IOW, a National Amendment is a ultimately a State issue. The two are not mutually exclusive but are both good things compared to where we are now.

Most pro-lifers understand that Roe V Wade needs to be repealed and it will go back to the states. Right now there are not enough states to get a National Amendment passed. Once Roe v. Wade is overturned pro-lifers can work on winning the battleground states and get a National Amendment.

I HAVE KNOWN THE MAN FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS. SO I AM NOT SOME POOR IGNORANT WAIF BEING MISLED BY SOME SVENGALI.

It is this personal knowledge of him that informs me that what you have posted about him is false. How do you know he is lying? A feeling? Gut instinct? Your best guess? Rank cynicism?

Do you even live in MA or are you another out of state Romney "expert" who has never met the man but knows his own thoughts better than he does? Do you have any idea of what you are talking about or did you just get your talking points from MassResistance or the DNC? Mitt Romney is one of the most honest, decent human beings I have ever known and it sickens me to listen to such uninformed, ignoramuses pontificating about his character.

This explains it quite nicely as a two step process. First, overturn Roe v Wade and then work towards passing Reagan's Human Life Amendment, which is part of the GOP platform. Romney supports it -- Rudy and Fred apparently do not.
