They just walked out a couple miles down the road from me here in Twinsburg. I’ll be driving by their union hall on the way home for lunch.

“Hopefully with a strike we’ll get some better gains and get a better contract in front of us,” he said.

Couldn’t better show that a union doesn’t care one whit for free market concepts like running a business.

What you will get laid in front of you is the closing notice when they shut your plant down and move.

Yup..picketers for about a mile down Chamberlin Road. And, pulling out of the union hall parking lot as I drove by....a Ron Paul van.

Unions: Fighting for the rights of people too lazy to fight for themselves.

At least that was my experience as a member in the 70's.

Cartels are bad.

Free markets are good.

The Dems are behind this. Their union leader pals want publicity for their medicine giveaway plan.

Chrysler doesn’t have to pay the “surplus” workers during a strike, but can still import Chery’s from China to come in badged as Chryslers eventually.

Which is to say, Chrysler’s owner Cerebus *wants* this strike to last, and last, and last...

Thus, if the strike ends it will only be because the UAW was smart enough to cave, and cave big time.

It always cracks me up to see union thugs driving around in their big-ass vehicles, with a union decal in the back window, and all kinds of other patriotic decals.

They are completely blinded to the fact that unions are not patriotic.
They are communism on a small scale.

Reminds of the old short story “The Waistband that was Taut Until the Moment it Snapped”

In some alternate universe, it must make perfect sense to stage a walkout when your employer is going down the tubes.

Chrysler pays about $76/hr including bennies. Toyota pays about $46/hr including bennies.

Earth to the rank-and-file...

Well, it's collective bargaining. Sort of like paying an attorney to represent you - like the guys who make millions do to negotiate their contracts. The unions are the poor man's version of that.

Times are changing. There are some of the "old guard" union workers still around - if you have a bad attitude it sure helps to be close to retirement - but the newer people realize that their jobs are not guaranteed if the company goes out of business because they can't make a profit.

The other side of the coin is that auto workers do support other peoples' businesses - So the money does get spread around a bit. If an auto company goes out of business and the auto workers lose their jobs - well, other people are going to be feeling the effects of that too.

Most of the people I know understand the new reality that has been in place for quite some time - that the American consumer has plenty of options, and that our jobs are by no means guaranteed.

The best thing Chrysler could do is completely start over as a non-union company. They are aware of the successes Toyota and Honda are enjoying, and how unsustainable and flawed the Big 3’s business models are.

The UAW had 1.5 million members in 1979, now they have less than 600,000. The UAW’s greed and foolishness will lead to their own extinction.

I hope this strike lasts 6 months. I want the union to deplete its strike fund and have NO money to give to Democratic candidates this election cycle.
