Slash-and-burn columnist Ann Coulter shocked a cable TV talk-show audience Monday when she declared that Jews need to be "perfected" by becoming Christians, and that America would be better off if everyone were Christian.
Coulter made the remarkable statements during an often heated appearance to promote her new book on advertising guru Danny Deutsch's CNBC show "The Big Idea."
In response to a question from Deutsch asking Coulter if "it would be better if we were all Christian," the controversial columnist responded: "Yes."
"We should all be Christian?" Deutsch repeated.
"Yes," Coulter responded, asking Deutsch, who is Jewish, if he would like to "come to church with me."
Deutsch, pressing Coulter further, asked, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians?" She responded: "Yeah."
Coulter deflected Deutsch's assertion that her comments were anti-Semitic, matter-of-factly telling the show's obviously upset host, "That is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews."

But, Yaelle, here’s the thing— Ann Coulter isn’t in this to convert souls. She’s in it to sell more books, even if it tears at the alliance between conservative Christian and Jews — never mind that Ahmedimanutjob and other islamofascists are probably licking their crusted lips with glee about this latest dustup. A divided enemy is so much easier.
The last thing we need is for Christians and Jews to be at each other. The media tries plenty to do that (suggesting that evangelicals eagerly await a new holocaust to kick off Armageddon, for example) without one of our very own pundits sparking a new fire while baiting liberal radio hosts and then another fanning the flames for three hours on his show.
When President Bush calls Islam a great religion of peace hijacked by a few extremists I am sick to my stomach, but one thing he says I do agree with - this war is a world war, and it will be a long war. They are everywhere, and they are very patient. And we are in trouble, because we are doing everything we can to accommodate Islamic practices in this country at our own expense. Rather than expecting reasonable assimilation of others, we are stifling Judeo-Christian American culture, in effect destroying ourselves and eventually this republic.
But right now our very own Congress is more concerned about falsely railing against the free speech rights of a private citizen than it is about passing a defense bill, more concerned about winning congressional seats than it is about winning this war. And our president is more concerned about trade relations with Mexico than securing our border. And right now our media, a willing accomplice, is more concerned about Britney Spears' child custody fight than the fact that Syria may very well have had a developing nuclear site and that Iran is no doubt much farther along in their quest than the average American has any clue about. (All of this to the satisfaction of American's socialists, another willing accomplice - what's that book by David Horowitz called?) We are drastically underestimating our enemy, and we will pay for it. Because what Islam seeks is world domination, and if they can't get it through overt war, they'll get it through population growth and a gradual culture change, which is they are doing all over the west right now.
Like you said, Brian, history is repeating itself. And the very few Churchills out there are being effectively shouted down. And one of these days, the fractured Islamic world will come together under one man for their greater good, and they will attempt that revived Islamic caliphate, and God help us if we're not ready for them.
Am I being too dramatic? I sure hope so.

I agree. She didn’t say anything ‘bad’. The word ‘perfected’ is in the Bible....it’s not like she made this stuff up. I’m totally on her side over this one.

Nothing to see here, folks. Chr*stians think everyone should be chr*stian. Moslems think everyone should be moslem. And atheist evolutionists think everyone (except for indigenous people, who are “quaint”) should be atheist evolutionists. My only complaint is that most Jews don’t realize they’re supposed to think every non-Jew should be a Noachide and have bought into the Iranian z*r*astrian/bahai thing that “everyone is fine just as he is” (after which statement the “fine” people are savaged for their “intolerant” religious beliefs which they are supposed to give up).

I have a confession to make: I think all Jews should practice ("orthodox") Judaism and all non-Jews shoul give up all their religions and observe the Noachide Laws.

We need frank open dialog, and this qualifies. For too long Christians have been taking it on the chin from all quarters.
From the 'piss jar' to Folsom street. The bashing of priests and attempts to sue the Church out of existence is reprehensible.
This is mild dialog in comparison and I might add constructive. Ann under sneak attack brilliantly framed an issue, and this thread for the most part has been a good read.
Sadly there are those that can really dish it out, but can't accept as sincere a hand reaching out to them.

Yes, it's true that a church service lasts longer. What is worse, if you go to one you have to deal with the hassle of actually thinking up an excuse not to like the melieu which isn't patently ignorant. But then, in the case of the interview, the interviewer basically goaded Ann into the entire discussion, it was not where she was headed on her own.
At least *her* rhetoric has SOME redeeming value...
I like Ann Coulter, and if I really thought she was trying to create constructive dialogue rather than just be provocative, I might agree with you. I mean, it’s not like she was in a focused forum debating a Jew, she was on a radio talk show goading a liberal, first and foremost. You have to admit she says the outrageous to spark the reaction.
I do agree that the thread’s been a good read though, and that there should be constructive dialogue among Christians and Jews. That actually supports MY point, which is that we need to be allies against those who want to see us both destroyed - Islam.
Why the big deal? Donnie Deutsch should just chill.
