My neighbors were doing this here in Illinois. I too thought it looked like a lynching, especially since there was (fake) blood oozing around the neck and out of the mouth and nose (on the dummy). Their home was on a corner property into our subdivision. I put a complaint in at the subdivision association level. The lynching display was soon taken down. It's in INCREDIBLY POOR TASTE.

When I lived out in the redwoods, I bought a life-sized cardboard skeleton and hung it by a “noose” outside my gate. My neighbors thought it was a hoot, even though some idiot had committed suicide there the year before I moved in. I don’t think anyone made the connection, least of all moi.

Historically, so called “African Americans” would surely comprise a small minority of those who ended up on the business end of a noose. I just no longer care if certain people are offended by certain things. I find those who whine about some perceived offense, offensive to me.

Ok, I have to ask some questions. Maybe I am just an idiot but...
First off, a noose is something many white people were hanged with just as well as blacks in early America. I don’t know the numbers, but I know is a general fact.
I agree that the intent of those doing it could be bad. But for the most part, I have to think it’s just people trying to stir up trouble, and it seems to be working quite well.
Also, although I think making a noose and putting a tar faced babydoll it it is in extremely poor taste, why is it a crime? Am I missing something? I am asking the question honestly and innocently, I swear. I can see where doing this could lead to several logical outcomes 1) getting fired b) getting your arse whipped c) being ridiculed by those with a little more sense of reality. But how is it illegal? It’s not illegal to hate, it’s illegal to o something ILLEGAL because of hate. Regardless, what is the exact crime being committed?
Again, I’d like to see the type of people doing this just out of curiosity, but this seems to be crossing some sort of line to me, as much as I may disagree with it.
Does this make it illegal to tell racial jokes? redneck jokes? are racial cartoons also illegal?
Someone help me understand.. I’m totally lost on this one.
