Orange County Update and Press Conference:

(I transcribed this from TV Channel 7 KABC News.
There were a couple of audio drop-outs)

Worried about fire jumping 241 Road

Orange County Fire Authority have done tremendous job throughout night.

The following roads, 241, 261, 133 were closed, then reopened then closed again.

261 is closed
241 NB is closed through Portola
Irvine Blvd. b/w Alton and Jeffrey is closed

714-628-7085 phone number for road closures

There are no current new evacuation orders.
However, there are still some ongoing mandatory evacuations.
There have also been some voluntary evacuations recommended.

Plan to have Orange County residents prepared:

Be Ready OC

1. Have all your valuables ready to go, including
a) Personal documents
b) Personal photos
c) Passports

2. For those of you who want to go look at the area, look around, watch the firefighters, take photos, please do not go.

This is a challenging fire because of drought conditions and wind. CHP turned traffic around on toll road got commuters off toll road. Sheriff Dept. moved traffic off the streets in the Tustin, in Northwood area.

We couldn't have done this well without help from them and cooperation from State and Federal government.

Cause of fire: Sad to report that this is an arson fire.

There were three separate starts, two on one side of road and one on the other side of the road.

Anything or anyone you suspect, think you know, anything at all please call the Arson Tip Line.

Arson Tip Line: 1-800-540-8282

Before we left San Diego, my wife was a dispatcher for the SD Sheriff's Dept. She's also a licensed ham and was active with Animal Rescue Reserve. She operated the "emergency" van during fires as she was licensed to operate every radio in the van. During Harmony Grove, she had the "coast" radio and handled 60 deputies when the communications tower burned down in north county. Neither of us are in the "fray" for this event. There are lots of active hams that jump right into emergency services. Hang in. It's going to be a long siege by the looks of the news.
