Thompson’s Plan to Fight Illegal Immigration

From Thompson campaign:

Thompson Announces Plan to Secure Border, Enforce Existing Immigration Laws

Senator Fred Thompson today unveiled a comprehensive border security and immigration enforcement proposal that would make America safer by increasing security at our nation’s borders, enforcing our country’s existing laws to reduce the incentive for illegal immigration and streamlining the legal immigration process.

“A country that cannot secure its borders will not remain a sovereign nation and you cannot have national security without border security,” said Thompson. “It’s not only necessary for any meaningful immigration reform, but border security plays a key role in both the interdiction of illegal drugs and in defending America against terrorist threats. Weak borders allow terrorists and smugglers, as well as millions of illegal aliens, easy entrance to the United States.”

No Im not 15 and I am only speaking the truth. Yes its good to hear what they want to do, its better to actually do it. With a Democrat controlled Congress, it just might be a little tough.

A man by the name of Regan, Ronald Regan, was able to do some amazing things back when Tip O'Neil and the Dems were running Congress. He did so by taking his case directly to the American people, and by sticking to his guns. I have a feeling that with a Dem or even Repub Congress, Fred will do the same.

Carry on Fred.

Explain exdactly what penalties he has for employers who hire illegals, if you would. Did he mention the fence?

If Fred were to offer some specifics in these areas as to how he would accomplish this work dealing with the entrenched bureaucrats in D.C. who will work against these 24/7...

A good tactician would not telegraph his play book before even getting into the game. Best to let people know what he thinks, and thinks what he means. When he gets into a particular fight, then we'll see the specifics. And having been a prosecutor, I'm sure he has a few tricks up his sleeve.

With a Democrat controlled Congress, it just might be a little tough.

Then work hard to change that. Support your Republican candidate for the House of Representatives, and get the GOP back into the majority. With a strong conservative President, and voters who WANT strong conservative stands on issues, they might get the backbone to stand up to the Dems in Congress.

First, I suggest you read it for yourself. It answers your questions.

Fred wants to enforce the laws on the books against employers. You can go to the 1986 Amnesty bill to get most of them.

"Bolster Border Security. Finish building the 854-mile wall along the border by 2010 as required by 8 USC 1103. Extend the wall beyond that as appropriate and deploy new technologies and additional resources to enhance detection and rapid apprehension along our borders by 2012."

thompsons policy statement used the word WALL not fence.

I suspect to keep the MSM from doing a simple word search and zeroing in on that alone.

Knowing how politicians play with word meanings I tend to suspect that we won’t see the completion of a wall or a fence.

"Compassionate conservatism" ...

... was not a position. It was a platitude. It was the opposite of a philosophy that upholds any position. I love Dubya, but man ... "Compassionate conservatism" should be wadded up and chucked to hell.
