Thompson’s Plan to Fight Illegal Immigration

From Thompson campaign:

Thompson Announces Plan to Secure Border, Enforce Existing Immigration Laws

Senator Fred Thompson today unveiled a comprehensive border security and immigration enforcement proposal that would make America safer by increasing security at our nation’s borders, enforcing our country’s existing laws to reduce the incentive for illegal immigration and streamlining the legal immigration process.

“A country that cannot secure its borders will not remain a sovereign nation and you cannot have national security without border security,” said Thompson. “It’s not only necessary for any meaningful immigration reform, but border security plays a key role in both the interdiction of illegal drugs and in defending America against terrorist threats. Weak borders allow terrorists and smugglers, as well as millions of illegal aliens, easy entrance to the United States.”

Automatic citizenship for babies whose parents come here illegally. Where is that addressed?

So, you’re not fifteen. Then, what’s your excuse for that pointless post? Trying to pick a fight?

Uh, no. Trying to point out that no President is going to do anything about illegal immigration. It's a taboo subject. They will use it to get elected. They will piss in your ear and tell you it is raining. Do you think a Republican President can get it done with a Democrat controlled Congress? Sorry if you took offense to my truthful post, but like the old saying goes, truth hurts.

That might explain it.

Sounds like Fred is spot on regarding illegal immigration, just as he is with almost all his other positions.

Kinda late to the party-ain't he?

Ho hum. If it doesn’t involve land mines and sharpshooters, I don’t care.

“Read my lips. no new taxes.” Boy we all fell for that one.”
There was more to that shibboleth than that simple statement. As I recall, there was a great grumbling about the high deficit at that time. Bush the Elder had an agreement (he thought) with the Dem Congress that for every dollar raised in new taxes, the deficit would be reduced by that one dollar. True to their character, the Dems not only refused to use those tax dollars to reduce the deficit, they actually spent something like $1.84 for every new dollar in taxes.
So, yeah. Bush never should have raised taxes, but it wasn’t quite as simple as some people think. He made a bargain(that he shouldn’t have made) and was then betrayed by the Dems.

The only thing that’s missing is language re communicable disease, proof of ability to pay health insurance premiums and/or obligations of sponsors to provide same, AND a loyalty oath (carefully and thoroughly crafted!).

I dont know what is with you people. All I did was be honest. I said get elected and put your plan in action. I dont know about you all but I dont trust my Government. They will tell you what you want to hear in order to get elected. Once elected they dont do crap. I like Fred. I hope he gets the nomination. But I dont trust any of them when it comes to illegal immigration. Sorry if my honesty bunched up your shorts but it is the Gods honest truth.

Um, no. There’s plenty of time to get the word out. On the other hand, Duncan Hunter’s been in since the beginning, and he’s polling at 0.4%. Fred’s crazy like a fox (or ‘lazy’ like one;).

Looks like I’m going to meet him tomorrow morning, I’m excited!

And do you think the next REPUBLICAN President can bargain with this Congress when it comes to illegal immigration?

Seeing as Fred Thompson is running on a no-nonsense border security platform, that should improve his chances.

Any politician (or party) who ignores the issue does so at their own peril. Is the RNC listening? Hello? Is this thing on? *audio feedback*

“Sorry if my honesty bunched up your shorts but it is the Gods honest truth.”

Truth that doesn’t make much sense I’m afraid. We have to base our vote on what we know _before_ the election. That does mean the candidate needs integrity and trustworthiness. The big problem has been that few, if any, recent Presidents have displayed those qualities. My gut feeling is that Fred has them in spades.

‘We the people’ need to figure out better ways to penalize politicians who break campaign promises. They’re an endemic problem.

Fred Thompson ‘08!

Sounds like a good plan.

Hunter and Thompson have similar plans.
Except Hunter has proven leadership in this area.

Thompson’s a good man. Hunter’s a better man.

While I wish he would be more specific, Fred is saying the right things about border security.

But I have absolutely ZERO confidence in our worthless, vapid, do nothing congress to put any of Fred’s ideas into action. In fact, I am convinced that if a Republican is elected NOTHING will be done about the border as long as liberals run congress. And if Hillary wins then the situation will only get much worse.

I’ve said it a thousand times... In the end the problem of illegal immigration will be solved in the streets. Our completely worthless congress will see to that.

I agree but if he does get elected lets talk in 2-3 years and see where we are as far as illegal immigration is concerned. My gut is telling me we will be in the same boat with a bigger hole.

It really sounds good...on paper!
Let’a be honest, Thompson has hired
at least one good speech writer.
WHY wasn’t any of this plan cited
the other night before the nation?
He’s saving the meat and potatoes
for his blog? How dull-witted do
they think I am?

I did hear him state that opening
remark several weeks back on live
TV. It was word for word..“A country that cannot secure its borders will not remain a sovereign nation and you cannot have national security without border security.”

Again...but being elected Preaident doesn’t
guarantee 435 Representatives in the House
and 100 Senators are going to buy into your
pledge.
