I’m pretty sure there was no FEMA back in 1971, but I was a young mother, and a horrid earthquake struck in the early morning hours. My house tilted and fell off of it’s foundations. I lost most everything. We were broke.

I cannot tell you how grateful I was to be told I could register for Federal relief, and the federal government paid my rent for 2 months. Just enough time to get it back together.

It felt like a gift from heaven. I’m sure these folks are going to be very appreciative as well.

I have heard a few advertisements on TV and radio from insurance companies - call us at xxx-xxxx if you lost your home and were insured by us. We’re here to help you.

That means a lot.

To die in a fire must be one of the most horrible things that can happen to a human

THe Photo of the Day === What a Classic!

The mother has her arms around the baby, and the President has his left arm around the mother and his right arm touching not only the baby but the mother’s right hand. He has encircled both of them with love.

Babies always feel the love in his face and touch.

I had that same thought - would I rather die in a fire or drown? Drowning won.

I can’t imagine being burned.

Interesting...one day she's stabbing W in the back, and the next, she's hitchin' a ride home and holding onto his arm for stability.

W...you are a better person than I, to be so forgiving.

"The Incorrigible Ms. F"...you have "huevos" the size of grapefruits.

Thanks so much for your insight into this photo. The long hours and untold daily leadership and comfort the Pres and VP give, could go virtually unnoticed if not for posts like yours to remind us.

Thank YOU, too, for your documenting of this/these truths through the Dose, as well.

I know exactly where that is, thanks, SCB! My girfried lives right up on that ridge beyond and just South of the Mall.

That shopping center is where they were housing all those various animals--mini horses, llamas, etc. I saw footage of all the animals coming in or out (I don't know which) and it looked like Noah's ark footage ;-) I understand that people would come by and drop off hey and food and other supplies for the animals over and over again. They were doing so well, taking care of such a variety, too.

Well, I hope I am wrong about this. California courts seem to
be weak on prosecution, but this is beyond the pale. I don’t mean
to offend...have just seen too many defendants who were
guilty get off too lightly out there. Maybe it’s only the
celebs! :D

(((hug)))

Maybe it’s not the time right now to critique past court cases?

You are correct. There was no FEMA in 1971. It was the peanut farmer from Georgia who brought us FEMA. One of the many disasters from the worst president this country has ever had

A very striking picture in a few dimensions, most notably the things it demonstrates about the character of the President.

Walking arm-in-arm amid the rubble, U.S. President George W. Bush (R) and Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) tour a San Deigo neighborhood

These are pictures of such sad situations. The caption would be more accurate if it said that President Bush was assisting Sen DiFi as they walked. He is such a gentleman.

If the nation had seen these pictures every day, they would have a totally different impression of this good man. It seems to be almost impossible to be in his presence and not warm up to him.....except for Dem pols who have ice water in their veins. Thanks for the dose.

I don’t know HOW he does it, either. After those jerks stab him in the back like that....I couldn’t speak to them. I know he has to, but...STILL!

“Interstate-I5” or is that “Interstate-5 (I-5)?
