That was really sweet. I know Dolly wrote that song, but I think Whitney Houston did a much better version of it.

Was fast wasn’t it! Porter was a nice guy and easily recognized in country music. When Nashville had a “theme park”, Opryland, you would often see Porter and the late Roy Acuff meandering around or sitting in a gazebo for the fans just to stop and say hi and take pictures with.
Rest in Peace.

I seem to remember a lot of
Serum of Black Draught commercials..from his show...”The stuff that makes you do the do, like you used to.”

Have you been living under a rock or are you just a kid?

Neither. I've just never heard of the guy. Then again, when Dale Earnhardt died, I was flabbergasted at the intensive media coverage because I'd never heard of him either. C&W and sports are two things I don't have the slightest interest in. If you'd asked me yesterday who was playing in the World Series I wouldn't have had a clue. Today it's all over the news and on my home page (Yahoo), so it's kind of in my face.

It’s ok, AE. We all have our own interests.

What are yours, if I may ask?

I'm a licensed pilot, although I plan on selling my plane and buying a sailboat. I'm also a certified scuba diver. I like riding my Harley. And in the winter I like to play online and I also like to watch TCM and the History Channel. But I've never been into spectator sports. However, I did play some softball in my younger days.

"I also remember Howdy Doody teaspoons."

What did those come in? I was a devoted fan for years (even had a Howdy Doody puppet). Never saw the teaspoons though.

I remember how Dolly would pronounce it...”Gitcher flayer tayels (flower towels) in boxes of Breeze!”

Wow... Just, wow... How’s life in that Bizarro World of yours?

Whitney Houston totally murdered that song and should’ve been locked up for it. There’s no two ways about it, either.

At least, like Dolly herself has been known to point out, it did make her a lot of money in royalties. But still not enough to warrant the atrocity, in my opinion.

R.I.P. Porter.

To each his own. I like Whitney’s version better, but Dolly did write a beautiful song.
