Screamers, Gossipers, Top Most Irritating Co-Worker List
Shirkers, screamers and gossipers are the most irritating co-workers, according to a new survey.
Ceridian, one of the world's largest human resource service providers, identified the top 10 most irritating people at work; the findings arrive ahead of National Stress Awareness Day on Nov. 7.
Shirkers - people who come up with endless excuses to not work - took top honors stressing out the most workers, almost a quarter of the 1,004 surveyed.
Coming in at second place are screamers -- who throw tantrums and arguments in open spaces; The third most irritating co-workers are gossipers who talk behind colleagues' backs and exclude people from conversations.
Also in the top 10 are whiners who never see the positive in any situation; megaphones who talk loudly on the phone; hijackers who hijack meetings by discussing irrelevant topics; wanderers who take long coffee and smoking breaks; slurpers, the noisy beverage drinkers, eaters and gum chewers; sneezers, the people who come to work sick; and swearers.
The survey also found that only eight percent of workers surveyed asked their boss for help with the stress at work, while 58 percent of employees suffered in silence.
Sitcoms such as the "The Office" portray these behaviors as humorous personality quirks, but in a real office situation, it's no laughing matter.
Stressful disruptive behavior can lead to stressed out office workers, which in turn affect morale, productivity and eventually, the bottom line.

Be careful with those cellphone jammers. There are hundreds of ways to trace the equipment back to you, including through purchase records, and if you happen to have jammed an “important” call from/to somebody else’s cellphone, a hefty lawsuit awaits you.

We have conference calls about every two months or so. I have my assistant supervisor in the office with me and we use the speaker so both can hear.
There are people on other speaker phones who are constantly shuffling papers, having "sidebar" conversations or distracting everyone on the call.
That behavior really ticks me off. I've asked them to either be part of the conference call or get off line just to embarrass them, but they continue with their distractions.
Actually heard a woman in the stall next to me say, “Hold on a sec, I have to change hands so I can wipe.”
No kidding.
People who come to work sick drive me nuts -- because I know the rest of the company (probably me included) is going to get sick, too.
Companies that are nuts for attendance no matter what basically create the problem, though.
The woman on maternity leave who brings her whelp into the office to be cooed and awwed by the rest of the women for however many hours they decide is adequate is a personal favorite.
Dear God, it's even more shocking when the offender is a woman! I was under the impression it was all lavender, roses, and string quartets in the women's head.
Most irritating co-worker: One who, when you ask a simple question that should only require a 3 word answer, talks for half an hour.

LOL I don't know you, so I can't say if this applies, but the ones here that complain about others taking smoke breaks are the ones who take 45 minute 'chat breaks' or 'personal phone call breaks' several times a day. (That's when they complain about the smokers, doncha know.)
LOL, my last two jobs had those people! They must be common.
They literally lie in wait watching for something to report to the boss either in person or email. Horrible!

The other really annoying people are the “save the planet” greenies. They have signs posted on all the paper towel dispensers that condescendingly “suggest” you try only using one paper towel. I’ve always wanted to write on one, “and if you don’t wash at all, you’ll save paper and water.”
People who wear too much perfume or cologne.

We just started using that "Personal Time Off" acronym recently. Whatever happened to the friendly terms "vacations days" and "sick days"? Oh well. I've got to go make a loud cubicle call on my speaker phone.

I do *hate* the boss that takes the credit for my hard work. And just as quickly these toads will excoriate a worker for any perceived (or real) failures.
I have dropped out of the rat race, I now make 1/2 the dough with 1/100000000 of the aggravation.
