New Cable TV Vouchers Ban FOX News

Democrats' hard-fought battle to provide cable television to welfare recipients hit another snag yesterday when Republicans found a newly inserted provision that specifically excludes FOX News Channel from programming options. "This clause was not in this bill last week," said Rep. Jim Clements (R-CO) "I don't know whether someone thought they could slip this by us, or what, but this is getting to be a bit much." The affected bill, a 3.5 billion dollar spending measure that proponents say is necessary to educate potential voters before the 2008 elections, has met with great resistance from conservative legislators on both sides of the aisle who portray it as just one more unnecessary entitlement tacked onto an already over-burdoned welfare system. "The Federal Government is not obliged to provide people the ability to watch Sponge Bob Square Pants." Said Rep. Mitch Weyland (R-NM), "This whole idea was bad from the beginning... it's a waste of taxpayer dollars." "Contrary to what my friend from New Mexico thinks, this is not about entertainment. It's about education.," said Warren Billingsley, Democrat from Buffalo, New York, and co-sponsor of the 'Voter Education and Inclusion Act.' Billingsley claims that without cable television, an irreplaceable source of political info and events, millions of voters nationwide will be disenfranchised from the process. "We need to move beyond this notion that only the very rich should have access to the political process," he said. "We want the American people, all of the American people, to have the proper information before heading to the polls in 2008." Asked why language was inserted to specifically bar FOX News Channel from programming, he replied, "FOX News isn't a source of proper information."

That’s because the satire tag wasn’t there originally.

And as a result, I posted it elsewhere and I look like an ass now :( Thanks a lot :(

Well, can you make up for it some by providing a link to this 1994 “Internet Access For All” thing you’ve mentioned several times? Cause I can’t find anything on that either.

I did find it on another site dated August 14, 2007 where it is not marked as satire either.
Pls don’t do this again.

That’s the original source as linked to from the original post. I figured out it was satire by going there and looking at other things they’ve posted. Doesn’t take long to realize the entire site is satire.

Yes..But as first glance it appears legit—you have to scroll thru the other stuff to realize it’s a spoof. Anyway, damage done. And it’s a lesson learned about which posts to trust .

I'm not fretting one bit about the latest "strike" in Hollywood. At most, it will affect the single hour of broadcast TV I watch each week. Big deal. Radio and the internet offer all I really need as sources of current information. I don't subscribe to the local fish wrap, but I occasionally see a headline worthy of buying a copy. The paper goes to a good cause afterward...lining the bird cage.

I do have a TV, DVD players and a satellite TV subscription. I'm not on welfare...I pay exorbitant taxes. I would sell all of that before I would ever consider living on the taxpayers tit.

The article fails to mention that President Bush was already agreed to sign the bill.

Moreover, the article has another mistake. It is not 3 billion for free cable but actually 3 trillion dollars for Free Cable to the Poor.

Do you have a LINK on that.

THIS is outrageous!
