Semper Fi-- Marines celebrate 232nd year
The Daily Journal (Kankakee) ^ | 11/08/2007 | Mary Baskerville

Posted on 11/08/2007 11:59:12 AM PST by Iron Munro

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev'ry clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job--
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

"I would do it again. I think I did more to help my country in the service than I ever would have done by myself. It was wonderful," Chris Ohlhues of Custer Park said in reflecting on her service in the U.S. Marines Corps during World War II at Parris Island in South Carolina.

Marines and others are invited to celebrate the 232nd birthday of the Corps from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday with cake and coffee at the Malcolm J. Mayo VFW Post 5422 at Baltimore and Third Street in Wilmington. The Marines were first commissioned by the Continental Congress on Nov. 10, 1775.

232 year OORAHS!

I was in MASS-1 (Atlantic Nomads) in 1976 and MASS-2 (Pacific Vagabonds) in 1977.

Semper Fi and all the best to present, former, and “on guard” Marines!

When I meet someone who is anti military, my response is my tagline.

“Freedom is not free, but don’t worry the U.S. Marine Corps will pay most of your share.”

Coache’s Saloon, Lancaster Ca. will once again be where I will party tomorrow with my brother and sister Marines. We have bagpipers that come and play our Hymn. Semper Fi.

Let us hope the present PC does not effect the over all spirit and mission of the Marines. It would be a horrible thing to come to past.

Great photo spread - Thanks!!

Is that one (#11?) the front hatch on the old Marine Receiving Barracks at the Yemassee, SC train station?

It sure looks familiar.

Happy Birthday Marines.

I ran into many of our brothers at GOE 1 and 2, and many of those who could not make it are commemorated on the Wall.

I haven't cried over our brothers for a long time, but this weekend, with the Birthday and Veterans Day, it's not an embarassment to remember them. In God We Trust.....Semper Fi

Thanks Sarge.

I wouldn’t be here today if not for U.S.A.F. air-support...even if we did call air-strikes on ourselves on more than one occasion...those damn maps! LOL
