Four transplant recipients in Chicago contracted HIV from a high-risk organ donor whose infection went undetected in what hospital officials say is the first documented case of the virus being transmitted by organ donation in the U.S. in more than 20 years....
A screening questionnaire determined that the organ donor had engaged in high-risk behavior...
But tests for HIV, hepatitis and other conditions came back negative, most likely because the donor had acquired the infections in the last three weeks before death...

When did he fill out the questionnaire? My guess, and this is only a guess is that whoever had the power of attorney, or next of kin filled out some kind of questionaire.
I questioned the risky behaviour because of the dust up last year on some college campuses to relax or delete the ban on homosexuals donating blood.

” holding a door for a feminist,”
I made the mistake of doing that once years ago. After I got reamed out, I said I was sorry for assuming she was a lady.

The transplants occurred in January at three Chicago hospitals, but the patients did not learn until the last two weeks that they were infected with HIV and the virus for hepatitis C. One doctor said the news was “devastating” to the patients.
Organs came from Gift of Hope Organ Procurement from Elmhurst - to Northwestern, Uof Chicago and Rush

To add to #6, It’s filled out by the next of kin, family, others that knew the donor well

I still do it - because my mother taught me right. However, now I make sure the equipment isn’t vulnerable to a swift attack from a hairy leg.

In Canada, donors are given a confidential form where they can indicate that their blood shouldn’t be used.
This allows “high risk” individuals to donate, along with their friends, without anyone knowing about their “risky behaviour”. That way, homosexuals can donate blood — but, it doesn’t get used. (Provided that they’re even a bit honest.)

this reminds me of a Law and Order show where a MAN died of ovarian cancer.....from a transplant.
It was one hell of a show.

The US has the same “safeguards”. However some College GLBT activists were going around telling people to lie on the form since it was “discriminating” against homosexuals, and the blood was tested for the virus anyway.

What, if in addition to risky sex, they have ADD and forget to check the "don't use" box? Political Correctness is always a bad idea!
