[Marie] Osmond's 16-year-old son enters rehab

LOS ANGELES - Marie Osmond said her 16-year-old son has entered a rehabilitation facility, but she didn't disclose the nature of his problem.

"My son, Michael, is an amazing young man, shown through his courage in facing his issues. As his mother I couldn't be more proud of him," the 48-year-old singer said in a statement issued Wednesday through her publicist, Marleah Leslie.

"The press and public have always been kind and gracious in the past and I know they will continue to respect our privacy during this time," Osmond said.

The statement was first reported by TV show "Entertainment Tonight."

Osmond has eight children. She announced earlier this year that she and her second husband, Brian Blosil, are divorcing.

She has been appearing on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars." She missed last week's show after her father, George Osmond, patriarch to her and her singing brothers, died at his home in Provo, Utah. He was 90.

She had survived the cut this week and remains a contestant on the dance competition.

Osmond fainted on stage following a samba during a live broadcast of the show last month. She quickly recovered and was well enough to continue.

"Once in a while that happens to me when I get winded," she has explained.

Osmond gained fame at 13 with the hit song "Paper Roses." She starred with her brother Donny on television's "Donny and Marie Show" during the 1970s.

Her brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay made their TV debut in 1962. Over the years, the Osmond Brothers singing group has also included her brothers Donny and Jimmy.

The Mormon man will "call forth" his wife (i.e. resurrect her) after death where she will serve as his "sacred vessel" eternally procreating "spirit babies."

It's always been my goal to be a 'sacred vessel'.

Damn, you have get famous first to have complete strangers offer prayers for your children, otherwise they’ll cuss you for asking why they, strangers, offer prayers for some famous strangers children, and at the same ignore all the misery that’s around them, as well as your own misery, that some of them may be causing!

General thoughts: 1. I thought Marie was married, briefly, prior to the guy she is just now divorcing ?.. 2. Daughters.. no matter what age.. tend to need their father.. we have four sons and then the one daughter.. at age 25, she is still close to her Dad (thank God!).. 3. I was a foster child.. living with a “foster” mother and father my entire life.. wonderful people, I was truly blessed.. however..there is a deep self-worth vacuum inside, so hard to get over, crushing and really places an adopted child in a vulnerable position.. fortunately for me, I placed all my energy in trying to prove I am worthy.. academics, productivity, perfection.. it took years to get over it..
4. The Osmonds are going to support Mitt.. what other insane questions would Larry ask.. duh! As a huge Mitt supporter, I mentioned his name 18 months ago to you all - I still do not know if I am going to vote for him.. just waiting to see the others.. my vote is for someone with defined actions, productivity, demonstrated outcomes, vision and integrity - so who is that???
5. The Osmonds are discovering renewed interest in their lives/talents.. a bit ditsy for sure.. but a welcome escape from the depressing news, insane TV programming and the everyday pressures.. so I think they will do well..
Cheers to all my Friendly Freepers.. wish I could take more time to visit with you all..

And they are 50-55 in age. Except for the one I am dating, they are all friends in my social circle.

Interesting.

BTW, I saw Marie on "Dancing with the Stars" and she looked in perfect shape. Not too thin and certainly not fat. Some women on TV look so thin like drug addicts.

That’s fine, can’t you just wait for the divorce to go through before you proceed any further?

I don't know - I was kinda hoping I could sing Paper Roses to her while we curled up in the sauna in our Honeymoon suite tonight...

Eight kids and can’t live without her daddy? Scary.

I'm 46 years old, been married for 22 years and have three kids. My Dad died about four years ago, and it hit me like a sledgehammer. He was my anchor and my hero. It took the good part of three years to really get over losing him, so I don't fault Marie for feeling the way that she does.

Obviously, family has a special meaning for her, as it does for me.

I don’t care if you are famous or not. You raised your children with good common sense!

She’s Mormon. Isn’t it through the husband that the wife is allowed into heaven?

Maybe they will give her something to eat while she’s visiting her son. This “winded” story sounds more like a menopausal woman who’s paranoid about her weight not eating and over-exerting herself.

Don’cha just luv how all these celebs have the need to air their dirty laundry to the world. We little people keep our mouths shut on such embarrassments.

I happened to be watching Larry King last night because I like Marie. When he asked her about her son being in rehab, she was shocked and asked him how he knew. As far as I could tell, she did not know this info about her son would be revealed last night.

Family also has special meaning to me. I was greatly grieved when my father died and still miss him and wish I had more time with him. How sad that some here are so cold that they are unable to understand that many of us do love and miss our parents.

LOL, common sense, a belt, a deep and sometimes loud voice packaged inside a 6ft 3 inch frame and the willingness to use all of it.

I like Marie. I like Dolly Parton and Curt Schilling for the same reason. In a youth-obsessed society, they are very, very good with what they do, despite their advanced age. None of this means I have any particular interest in what their offspring are stuffing up their noses.

Yeah, she brought it up. But likely only because she didn't want some tabloid blowing it up and making her kid's rehab all that more difficult.

So, yeah, I'm interested in her because she's earned my respect with her talent. In Jimmy Stewart's and Audrey Hepburn's day, celebs were expected to live moral lives and their kids were left alone. It would be nice if it were the same thing today.

I am 65 years old, my mother died in 1983(I never knew my father, he was killed in WWII)and I still feel it today. Doesn't mean I can't function but I miss her and the advice she used to give me.

Family means a lot to some people, I am one of them. Marie Osmond is a nice person, she always has been. Raising 8 children you are bound to come a cropper on at least one of them, anyone who says different has never raised children. As for her being married twice, so what? Sh** happens as they say, we can't see into the future and we make bad choices that is hindsight should have been obvious but were not.

I don't know many families who haven't been touched by substance abuse in one form or another. I don't know what planet you live on?

I'm here to tell you how proud I am of my own son, who went thru rehab and came out clean and sober..It wasn't easy, he went thru hell.

It's the lucky ones who can take a couple of drinks and put it down.

Wow! If we all can only go through life without anyone around us having substance problems.

I know quite a few people who have substance abuse problems. There are alcoholics in my own family. I just don't see this as a reason to be proud of them. I'm proud of the kids in our family who don't do drugs. And when addicts go into rehab I'll be glad, but I won't think it took remarkable courage. Courage is what US servicepeople show when they risk or give their lives for their country and comrades. Going into rehab when the alternative is addiction and degradation should not be termed courageous. It's the least an alcoholic or substance abuser should do.

I don’t think Rich has anything to do with it. And are you suggesting Marie Osmond had kids for “show”. I don’t think so.
