Obama: I Tried Drugs As a Teen

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Tuesday told high school students that when he was their age he was hardly a model student, experimenting with illegal drugs and drinking alcohol.
Obama stopped by a study hall at Manchester Central High School and answered students' questions about the war in Iraq and his education plan. But when an adult asked about his time as a student, Obama spoke bluntly.
"I will confess to you, I was kind of a goof-off in high school. My Mom reminds me of that," said Obama, an Illinois Democrat who grew up in Hawaii
"You know, I made some bad decisions that I've actually written about. You know, got into drinking. I experimented with drugs," he said. "There was a whole stretch of time that I didn't really apply myself a lot. It wasn't until I got out of high school and went to college that I started realizing, 'Man, I wasted a lot of time.'"
Obama has written about his drug use in his memoir, "Dreams from My Father."
"Junkie. Pothead. That's where I'd been headed: the final fatal role of the young would be black man," Obama wrote. Mostly he smoked marijuana and drank alcohol, Obama wrote, but occasionally he would snort cocaine when he could afford it.
Drugs, Obama wrote, were a way he "could push questions of who I was out of my mind, something that could flatten out the landscape of my heart, blur the edges of my memory."

Obama had no respect for the laws of the country growing up, and he most likely does not respect them now. A self-confessed goof-off and drug user. Is that the best candidate that the Democrats can field? What does that say for anyone that would vote for him? This country is so FUBAR.
Yeah."Experimented" means "I tried different drugs to see which one I liked better".

Just reminding everybody after a year of campaigning how mainstream he is, just like Bill Clinton only more honest. We need reminding because the campaign has gone on so long everybody has forgotten both the cocaine and the madrassah.

He didn’t HAVE to resign in disgrace. But we republicans are more concerened about propriety and the law than democrats are, so by nature our candidates have a higher standard to meet.
We also expect our candidates to be sensible and conservative, something democrats don’t.
Maybe he thinks this is the information that Hillary has on him?

Maybe he means that he 'would-be' a black man but his mother is white.
The brain is still undergoing big changes when you are in high school, doing drugs at that age is far more destructive (Libertarians) then to a grown adult.

That’s why Republicans are open to charges of hypocrisy and Democrats aren’t.
Democrats have no standards, so they can’t be accused of failing to live up to them.
Maybe the story is about cocaine use well after high school, or something like that he actually sold or shared the drug to and with others while in high school or even after.
Hard to imagine that a high school cocaine user would just go cold turkey upon graduation. He kept smoking cigarettes, and probably has used coffee his entire life, so he likes stimulants. If someone gets to ask him a question at a town hall or press conference see if he ever sold or widely shared his coke “stash”, especially with other youngsters.
