EDITOR'S NOTE: This is the first day of a seven-day series about the cost of immigration.

When doctors swear the Hippocratic oath, they pledge to do all in their power to help their patients. But medical care is extremely expensive today, and hospitals run on money, not ideals.

Balancing the ideals with financial reality is an ongoing struggle for medical professionals, and the number of illegal immigrants seeking medical treatment they can't afford exemplifies the problem.

Someone must have gotten a government grant to come up with the absurd conclusion that illegal alien care is not a burden.

That's the problem with these studies--the conclusions are either "Really--duh, my 4th grader knew that" or are so divorced from reality that the only sane persons to accept them are those with an agenda that the "conclusion" supports.

This fall under the NSS category (No Sh*t Sherlock). Of course illegal aliens burden our health care system. When you don't pay your medical bills, you're freeloading.

As a physician and director of Emergency Medical Services in my home town, I can tell you this. We have never been able to collect any bills from patients who are illegals over the years. Zero. Zip, Nil, Nada, not a single penny.

I sincerely wish that ER triage folks would take that into consideration. I've had my aged parents (obvious to all that Medicare is in force with them) there more times than I can count; yet the snot-nosed kid with a fever is still generally gonna remain ahead of them.

Here’s my standard post. We can do something about Illegal immigration.

RICO —Citizen Recourse

Private persons and entities may initiate civil suits to obtain injunctions and treble damages against enterprises that conspire to or actually violate federal alien smuggling, harboring, or document fraud statutes, under the Racketeer-Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO). The pattern of racketeering activity is defined as commission of two or more of the listed crimes. A RICO enterprise can be any individual legal entity, or a group of individuals who are not a legal entity but are associated in fact, and can include nonprofit associations.

Here’s what I’ve been pushing: it’s time to file Racketeering, Influencing, and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) lawsuits.

RICO lawyers could turn it around in a few years and MAKE MONEY at the same time. I’m surprised they haven’t done it already.

In the absence of enforcement, we can get the word out in the meantime that there is money to be made in filing RICO lawsuits against employers who hire illegal aliens.

Employers would have no trouble shutting down the border if they could get sued by someone under the RICO statutes for hiring these people in the first place. The next time an illegal alien kills someone in a drunk driving accident or somesuch thing, I’m going to point out that the victim’s family might be able to seek compensation from the employer under these statutes in the hopes that it would catch on. If this did catch on, would see such a swift backlash against illegal immigration that no employer would go near these people and they’ll all simply want to go back home.
