Groups that support a crackdown on illegal aliens haven't settled on their champion in the race for the White House, but there's little doubt which Republican scares them most former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
"He was an absolute disaster on immigration as governor," said Roy Beck, president of NumbersUSA

News Flash : Former Arkansas Governor Veracity Challenged
The Man from Hope has described his illegal immigrant scholarship program as follows:
I supported a bill that would have allowed those children who had been in our schools their entire school life the opportunity to have the same scholarship that their peers had who had also gone to high school with them and sat in the same classrooms. They couldn’t just move in in their senior year and go to college. ... [It] said that if you’d sat in our schools from the time you’re 5 or 6 years old and you had become an A-plus student, you completed the core curriculum, you were an exceptional student, and you also had to be drug and alcohol free, and the other provision, you had to be applying for citizenship.
Wish I could say I was shocked to find out most of that isn’t true:
Actually, the bill Huckabee pushed for in his 2005 State of the Union address did not apply only to “those children who had been in our schools their entire school life.” It required only three years in an Arkansas high school to be eligible. And students did not have to be “applying for citizenship,” but rather they had to sign an affidavit stating their intent to do so in the future. All students who apply for state scholarships must “certify that they are drug-free” and “pledge to refrain from alcohol” if they are under 21, just as Huckabee said. But they certainly don’t have to be “an A-plus student.” The state requires a solid “B” average (a 3.0 average on a 4.0 scale). And the state may reduce that to a 2.5 average if sticking with the higher requirement “would unduly reduce the number of low-income or disadvantaged students who would otherwise be eligible for the program.” That’s a C-plus average.
On one issue after another, the Man from Hope has been displaying an unfortunate habit of playing fast and loose with the facts. I could be wrong, but I suspect that might become a liability if he doesn’t get on the straight and narrow PDQ.

I am still shaking my head over this preacher saying ‘Jesus *WAS* too smart to run....’ when asked what would Jesus do?
The bottom line on the Huckster is that he is a pro-life socialist.
“He was an absolute disaster on immigration as governor...”
He’ll be an even bigger disaster if he is gets in the White House!
The fact that FR’s most rabidly pro open border posters support the Huckster is all I need to know.
I predict that Huckabee’s balloon will burst soon.
Preacher Huckabee is still patting himself on his back for this response. Whereas he should be red-faced and embarrassed that his Jesus *WAS* toooo smart.
Rush said it was silly!
We spent years under Bush fighting off Bush/McCain/Kennedy style amnesty and now we are going to nominate some guy who characterizes opposing tuition breaks for illegals as grinding “your heel into the face of a 6-year-old child”?
I think I prefer the overweening arrogance of the open borders crowd that was just calling us racists for opposing secure borders. Huckabee has raised the stakes to calling us child abusers.
How any conservative can vote for a guy who pushes tax increases and trashes those who stand up against giveaways to illegal aliens is beyond me. Maybe Huck thinks the children of others who break the law ought to be given special privileges. How about tuition breaks for the children of bank robbers or burglars?
But, but, but, he’s redeemed. That should make him perfect to the Christian Mullahs
“I am still shaking my head over this preacher saying Jesus *WAS* too smart to run.... when asked what would Jesus do?
A good answer to a stupid question..
This one of the many “When did you stop being a redneck” questions that were asked.
There were about 3 qwuestions that none of the candidates should have played with.
I missed Rush, wish I had heard his take. Guess I am not as compassionate as Rush because silly would be reserved for a nonbeliever, not some high minded preacher.
As I said in a previous post, would have been an acceptable answer by a 'nonbeliever' not a man who heralds himself a Christian preacher. Not exactly representative of his supposed calling.
He is a disaster as a candidate too, supporting the shameful DREAM Act.
Note, for me this isn’t really about Huckebee, who I thing is a decent person and would be much better than the Hildabeast, it’s about who controls the process of selecting the candidates by controlling the framework of the public debate.
Watching the efforts by the MSM and business types to lift Huckebee from obscurity to within (perceived) striking distance in Iowa is totally fascinating. Now I understand how we could go from a “compassionate conservative” to a “heroic conservative” - Both types are really Liberals at heart dressed up in socially conservative clothing.
He may well be redeemed, that is between he and God. He was given an opportunity to tell all who were hearing, instruction from Jesus and he instead made a joke. And is even still as of this a.m. (must admit I have the Foxes on in the background), patting himself on his back for his funny.
I agree, cc. We can only hope that traditional Conservatives who support him read up on the Huckster.
Any candidate promising judges, promising an administration not hostile to pro-life causes, hiring pro-life activists to their campaigns, or any candidate saying they were wrong in their past, or working for pro-abortion law firms, or not being for a pro-life const amendment, not Christian enough....on and on. All these candidates were/are suspicious or rabid baby killers.
So much so that threats of a 3rd party, and staying home were made, and those threats continue today.
So, here we are, as usual, without the perfect and pure candidate.

Dear Lawbreakers,
We sincerely appreciate your comments about Gov. Huckabee. Your dismaissal of his campaign for president and categorizing a potential Huckabee Administration as a ‘Disaster’, increased his popularity among registered, legal voters by approximately 20%.
Please feel free to continue making similar comments about Governor Huckabee and the negative perceptions you have of a potential Huckabee Administration. We acknowledge the valuable contribution your organization is providing Governor Huckabee’s campaign and encourage you to continue,
Sincerely,
The Gov. Huckabee Presidential Campaign Staff

The media has been busting their butts to groom the Huckster to be Rudy’s running mate. That’s their idea of appealing to the religious right.
We can’t let them get away with it.
And he WILL accept if asked.

He’ll say what they all say, “Rudy will appoint strict constructionist judges!”
Thanks for posting. Only the 2nd thread I’ve read about Huckabee the presidential candidate (the 1st was earlier this morning). Thanks to all contributors to this thread.
Look again. I think there is a third at the top.
But he said he finds a lot of anger and frustration directed at immigrants who don't speak English.
"Unfortunately, instead of being angry at the federal government for totally failing us in this, they sometimes get angry at the people themselves," he said.
He also said he's willing to take the heat for pushing for illegal alien students to be able to get taxpayer-funded financial aid and college scholarships.
"Our country is better than that, to punish children for what their parents did in breaking the law. If that costs me the election, it costs me the election, but somewhere along the line we cannot just pander to the anger and hostility without challenging it," he said.
I don't see why the Federal Government, i.e., the taxpayers, has some overriding obligation to teach English to illegal aliens, or even legally resident aliens, for that matter. People who come here wanting to become Americans should take some individual responsibility and learn English with the help of massive, locally available resources in places like community colleges. When Huckster relieves them of any accountability for their voluntary failure to learn English, he shows himself to be the illegals' enabler.
[He was an absolute disaster on immigration as governor...
Hell be an even bigger disaster if he is gets in the White House!]
We already have one RINO in the White House who won’t protect our borders - Jorge Bush. We don’t need another - Miguel Huckabee.
That is his problem. He is a Baptist Minister, the realm of God. To apply for a job in the realm of Caesar, he must study other things, like Sun Tzu and Machiavelli. The art of war. Democrats are at war with the American people. That must be the first principle.

Thanks. I will this evening. /to work.
And they are welcome to do so here.....
The Huckster Chronicles - What You Don't Know Will Hurt You
Plus they should ask us Arkansas FReepers who know the Huckster best.
Disaster is an understatement
If you like Amnesty, you’ll love Huck. I can’t believe that after we went through all we went through in beating back Bush’s Amnesy plan, we would pick a Huckster from Hope with the same pandering Amnesty Agenda. Even in this Times article he admits that he would eventually introduce a path to citizenship with modest fines so that he could claim it wasn’t “amnesty”.
You have to read to the 2nd page of the article to get to the important parts...
“On Thanksgiving, Mr. Beck wrote an e-mail to his supporters praising the immigration plan of Fred Thompson, a former senator who is running for the Republican nomination and who has called for attrition through enforcement.
“I really was blown away. I said, my gosh, this is an incredible platform,” Mr. Beck said in an interview this week.”

Huckabee promotes 'open door' policy at LULAC convention
Thursday, Jun 30, 2005
By Wesley Brown
Arkansas News Bureau
LITTLE ROCK - In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life.
"I would hope that no matter who we are, or where we are from, that America should always be a place that opens its arms, opens it heart, opens its spirit to people who come because they want the best for their families ...," Huckabee said as the largely Hispanic audience gave him a standing ovation.
Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at a noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock.
About 10,000 political, community and business leaders, along with exhibitors and speakers are in Little Rock attending the convention at the Statehouse Convention Center. The convention started Monday and runs through Saturday.
Although he never actually talked about the U.S. or Arkansas immigration policy, Huckabee made it very clear where he stood on the issue. In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.
He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state's capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation. "Your gathering is so very significant for our state," Huckabee said. "We are delighted to have you."
Despite several light moments, Huckabee did not stray away from several controversial issues that made him a target of criticism during the recently ended 85th General Assembly. He said Arkansas needs to make the transition from a traditional Southern state to one that recognizes and cherishes diversity "in culture, in language and in population."
"This is an issue that is going to require extraordinary efforts on both sides of the border, particularly those coming from Mexico," Huckabee said of verifying the status of illegal aliens. "But I am confident that our government will recognize that we should accommodate people who wish to provide the best opportunities for their families (and) employers so that we can make sure our economy has the necessary work force."
During the legislation session, Huckabee criticized an immigration bill by Republican senators Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life. Senate Bill 206, which died in the Senate, would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and also force state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally. Holt, R-Springdale, replied later to Huckabee's comments that Christian charity does not include turning a blind eye to lawbreaking.
Preach it, brother.
I am delighted Mr. Beck is so impressed with platforms, I’m not. Beck (NumbersUSA) also said about Rudy, “but they are impressed with his tough border-security position.”
I think we allow candidates and the media to define the debate, and we too often allow them to equate carefully crafted position papers and platforms with credibility and consistent conservatism on issues. Seldom do platforms and position papers translate into future actions. I want a history. I want a candidate who has “done” something, who has been a consistent advocate, regarding the issues that are important to us. I think Conservative Americans deserve at least that much and I don’t feel it it is too much to ask. If you haven’t been with us in the past; I am not going to assume nor believe you will, just because it is now, politically expedient to do so.
Well said!
Fred always did have a good record on border and illegals issues.
At the time He was on this earth, He truly was too smart to mess with politics. Therefore, it's not something for which I would take the Reverend Governor Huckleberry to task (especially since there are better things for which to fault him, like his pro-illegal aliens policies).
The Man from Tyson!!
