:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Calculating the Risks in Pakistan

A small group of U.S. military experts and intelligence officials convened in Washington for a classified war game last year, exploring strategies for securing Pakistan's nuclear arsenal if the country's political institutions and military safeguards began to fall apart.

The secret exercise — conducted without official sponsorship from any government agency, apparently due to the sensitivity of its subject — was one of several such games the U.S. government has conducted in recent years examining various options and scenarios for Pakistan's nuclear weapons: How many troops might be required for a military intervention in Pakistan? Could Pakistani nuclear bunkers be isolated by saturating the surrounding areas with tens of thousands of high-powered mines, dropped from the air and packed with anti-tank and anti-personnel munitions? Or might such a move only worsen the security of Pakistan's arsenal?

I thought one nurse in the article (paraphrasing) that said have a muslim unit and turn all the beds to the position of facing mecca. Saves a lot of work.

If one has to be involved with political correctness; this solution made the most sense financially and time wise.

Son’s call to police leads to dad’s arrest on felony ID theft charges

The investigation of a Morton Grove man charged with 22 counts of felony identity theft started when his son reported that his father had threatened to shoot him, authorities said Tuesday.

Officers were looking for weapons last week when they searched the home of Mohammad Afzal Sodagar in the 8600 block of Frontage Drive.

What they found instead were hundreds of credit cards, 11 Illinois identification cards with Sodagar’s photos—but bearing other names—on them, at least 36 Social Security cards, gold coins and bars and more than $60,000 in cash, said a spokesman for the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Bail for Sodagar, 51, was set at $3 million during a hearing Monday in the Skokie branch of Circuit Court. He was charged Saturday.

In his dealings with Chicago’s Muslim community, Sodagar, whom family members say uses his middle name, has portrayed himself as the chief executive of a television production company. But in arguing for the high bail, prosecutors said he apparently has no job.

“This man has been operating his own criminal enterprise for probably 30 years,” said Morton Grove Police Cmdr. Brian Bolger.

“We have located 22 victims.......

ICE sees surge in arrests of fugitive immigrants

Federal authorities announced Tuesday that they arrested about twice as many immigrants who ignored deportation orders during fiscal year 2007 as they did the previous year.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 1,043 fugitive immigrants in the six Midwestern states overseen by operations in Chicago, up from 520 in fiscal year 2006, agency spokeswoman Gail Montenegro said.

Nationwide, ICE arrested more than 30,408 fugitive immigrants during fiscal year 2007, which ended Sept. 30, compared with 15,462 in fiscal year 2006.[snip]

“IT’S NHS BEDLAM”

There's already footbaths at US airports....how long will it take until this same procedure becomes "the expected norm" in US hospitals for certain patients? There are, after all, a significant number of Islamic physicians treating patients at American hospitals.

I don’t know.
I don’t think the public will let it become the norm in Britain, in my opinion.

17 infected with TB before student's death

A Nepalese student at Colorado State University-Pueblo who died of tuberculosis in June likely infected 17 others, officials said.

About 150 people were tested for tuberculosis by the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment after Kalpana Dangol, 19, died June 8 at a Colorado Springs hospital, The Denver Post reported Sunday.

Of those individuals, 17 were found to have a latent form of the disease, the public health department found during its investigation. Ten of those who tested positive are in treatment, seven others are not because they have decided to forgo it or have moved, the newspaper said.

International health officials say drug resistant TB is man-made

Drug-resistant tuberculosis comes in two forms. Multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, or MDR-TB, occurs when the tuberculosis infection is resistant to one or both of the front-line anti-TB drugs, isoniazid and rifampicin.

The other form is called extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis, or XDR-TB, in which the TB bacterium does not respond to any of the older antibiotics and is resistant to at least one of the newer drugs.

Treatment for drug-resistant tuberculosis involves more radical treatment. Those with drug-resistant TB who fail to get the treatment can easily spread the disease to others.
