McCain Comeback in Home State of Arizona
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 12/4/07 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 12/04/2007 1:56:53 PM PST by Norman Bates

John McCain has regained his political footing in Arizona.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Arizona’s Likely Voters finds that 63% now have a favorable opinion of their senior Senator while only 35% have an unfavorable view. That’s a vast improvement since June when the Senate immigration debate drove McCain’s favorable ratings down to 47% in his home state. At that time, 51% had an unfavorable opinion of him.

In September, McCain’s favorable rating was still stuck at 48% and Fred Thompson outperformed the Arizona Senator in general election match-ups in his home state.

Now, however, McCain crushes each of the three leading Democratic presidential contenders in Arizona. He leads Senator Hillary Clinton 57% to 34%, Senator Barack Obama 55% to 33%, and former Senator John Edwards 56% to 30% (see crosstabs). That’s a vast improvement from a month ago when he led Clinton by just twelve percentage points.

Other Republicans also edge out Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton in the Grand Canyon State, but by much narrower margins. Former Big Apple Mayor Rudy Giuliani leads Clinton 47% to 38%. That’s virtually unchanged from a month ago. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney scrounges only a four-point advantage of 45% to 41%, still within the margin of sampling error.

McCain’s favorable ratings have improved nationally among Republicans as well. He is currently tied for second in polling for the New Hampshire Presidential Primary and recently was endorsed by the Manchester Union Leader, an influential newspaper in that New England State. Nationally, McCain is one of five candidates seeking the Republican nomination to enjoy double digit support from voters.

I still think he’s a son of a birch but he may just be the son of a birch that we need.

I live in Arizona and my opinion has still not changed. McCain still gets a big fat NO vote from me on anything he runs for...including dog cather. I am ashamed of my fellow Arizonans who apparently have a very short memory.

Why is Thompson never included in these polls? I see more and more polls without Fred in them. Is there a conspiracy here I am unaware of?

You don't elect self-described "mavericks" to the presidency.

Look back at all the wild tangents he's gone off on...I suspect most were to kiss up to the MSM.

What this really shows is how hot the illegal immigration issue is going to be in this election. The libs got it backward, but then, again, that's why they are still liberals.

It’s precisely that attitude which gives us politicians like Janet Napolitano.

I guess Arizona has forgotten McInsane’s position against citizen’s 1st Amendment rights, Open borders, Amnesty for Illegal Aliens, his performance on the MIA/POW Senate whitewash with John F’n Kerry, his defense of John F’n Kerry against the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.....

McInsane has far too many negatives to be taken seriously about ANYTHING critical to the survival of the Republic...

McInsane is too blinded by his desire for power...
He has already ridden his “hero status” too far....

F’em...

I just saw a poll though (check realclearpolitics.com) that had Rudy beating McCain in AZ. It was pretty surprising. Either way, these are good numbers. Remember in 2004 how the drive-bys said AZ was “in play?” Not according to this.

Yes, I saw that. McCain had a home-state blues dip, but this latest poll suggests McCain is solid again in AZ. I doubt Rudy’s on top anymore.

All
please check leads at http://www.ireachable.com/vote as well.

if you have not take the poll please do. It is very very simple.

Also if you are caucus or primary participant then after casting your opinion vote proceed to affinity section and set interest circle1 = ‘IOWA caucus participant’ or ‘NH primary participant’ etc depending on your participation state.

also check results by vote circles - location/state, age, gender, etc as well as where voters are voting on google map.
