That might require a whole book to be written.

Is like reasoning with a Hillary voter, which most of them will be after the nominations.

Reasoning with the Ron Paul Cult is equal to...

Teaching a Cat Obedience Class.

Sticking a hot poker in your eye.

Teaching etiquette and manners to Rosie O'Donnell.

Teaching etiquette and manners to a Ron Paul Cultist.

Not meaning to hijack the thread....but...

I have a former student (he graduated HS about 8 years ago) who was a very bright and promising young man. He pigeon-holed 80% of his post-tax earnings from working at the family resteraunt while in high school. That 80% went directly into his investment account he had set up himself. He bought and sold stocks like a pro. His Senior year, he paid cash for a brand new Volkswagen Passat that he shopped around for and figured costs of flying to pick up the car/etc. to get the very best bottom line.

He went on to college and rapidly earned his Batchelor’s degree in business, and then completed his MBA. He now has his own business in which he buys and sells property, automobiles, and still has time to work for the family restaraunt for “fun”. He is super bright in business matters and has an uncanny eye on world markets - particularly in all sorts of investment funds. Let’s just say that I consider his opinion on anything related to stocks or the markets in general to be almost as good as gold.

He like Ron Paul. While he disagrees with RP on returning to the Gold Standard (practicalities), he really likes Ron Paul on pretty much every other issue.

Is this former student a nut-job? He is a unique individual, but I also respect his opinion. And in some cases, it is hard to argue with his logic.

So... I do agree that the Ron Paul followers are much like a cult, there are some truly bright and generally logical people who present some pretty good arguments.

But the more you statist nut-jobs...

Just curious...is "statist" the new word for those of us who don't drink the Ron Paul Kool-Aid? I know it used to be "neocon," and was wondering if there has been an official switch.

I like to stay up on the cutting edge vernacular.

Thanks.

You know, I have another preferred presidential candidate, and don’t think Paul would make a good President. But the more you statist nut-jobs smear him, the more seriously I consider him. I’d happily vote Paul over Rudy and Hillary, and the added spite over you folks would be enhance the pleasure.

I like his constitutionalism domestically. But his blinders make him utterly unable to see that you don't have a constitutional republic if you don't defend it. America is blessed with two oceans on either side. We have always conducted forward defense (at least since 1812). That means, for example, WWII was fought elsewhere. Paul is ready to toss that wisdom aside. That makes me question his judgment on EVERYTHING.

He's not presidential material in the least. As between him and a dem, it's a tossup.

* The dem is more likely to fight the WOT than is he--most of the dems just want the power to order the troops around. They have no intention of actually disengaging from the world--that's just red meat for Kos. Paul does.

* OTOH, Paul wouldn't run roughshod over the Constitution as would any dem.

But we have to win the WOT or there's no constitution to come home to. So I'd say dem and then hope we can repair the damage done by them at home after we win the WOT. It would be by far the most dreadful presidential choice in my (rather long) memory--and there have been some bad ones.

Reasoning with the Ron Paul Cult is equal to Reasoning with...

a child over the dangers of eating a lot of candy.

Seriously, this is a close analogy. Ron Paul cultists have no sense of foreign danger and are pacifists that like to sing kumbaya (while eating candy).

I believe the premise of the thread is that if he isn't he can be made one given a sufficient quantity of perjoratives and epithets.

Wow, way mature. Vote for a cut and run monkey just to make people mad.

Just talk to the hand.

Admitting to being a statist nut-job just about says it all.

You figured out that "Niteranger68" is a statist nutjub just from that post? Just becacuse he doesn't care for Paul, you call him a "statist nut-job."

And you wonder why this thread exists in the first place, and why FReepers laugh at Paul's supporters.
