Romney Claims NRA Endorsement He Didn't Receive
Washington Post ^ | 12/16/2007

Maybe it was the pressure of the moment. Being under the Tim Russert spotlight can get to anyone. Under Russert's grilling about guns on this morning's "Meet the Press," former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney claimed an endorsement he'd never won.

....snip.....

"I just talked about, about guns. I told you what my position was, and what I, what I did as governor; the fact that I received the endorsement of the NRA."

The problem?

He was never endorsed by the NRA, and didn't have their official support during his 2002 gubernatorial campaign. The NRA declined to endorse in that race, as was acknowledged by Romney's spokesman this morning.

Did you know that Mitt is a self-described “lifelong hunter”? Yup, he admits to hunting twice in his life, so that makes him “lifelong.”

He’s a politician and a liar....or is that redundant?

Damn all politicians that want to mislead people!

If they can’t be honest about what they believe then I’ve got no use for them.

Mutt is worse than Rooty because Rooty don’t try to hide the fact that he’s a gun grabbing liberal puke.

They both are!

Okay, I’m a political realist and will cut Mitt and other politicians a little slack for their pandering. But when Mitt pulls stunts like this it’s just downright insulting; he must truly think we’re stupid.

Romney is the ONLY candidate with REAL WORLD SUCCESSFUL
experience of running a business as opposed to following
who have never run any business or met a payroll:

McCain
Thompson
Huckabee
Giulinai

I am not 100% sure if Hunter has worked in a real world business.

Having spent majority of my working years in real worls survive by making a profit type of outfits, I value this
kind of experience over all others.

However whoever is the republican nominee gets my vote.

“Romney is the ONLY candidate with REAL WORLD SUCCESSFUL

Mutt has lots of experience as a gun grabber and that is the topic of the thread.

Take a hike, troll. This thread is for discussing Mitt’s recent lies about being endorsed by the NRA, not his alleged business acumen.

Perhaps under the heat of a Russert grilling (and he has been brutal to our viable candidates), he may have been less than precise. The NRA did endorse his gun bill. On his website they even use the word "endorsed" when talking about the gun bill. I am sure that's what he was talking about.

Governor Romney has always supported the individual right to keep and bear arms. The firearms bills that Governor Romney signed into law (see below) were all endorsed by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and/or the Gun Owners' Action League (GOAL), which bills itself as "The Official Firearms Association of Massachusetts."

Craig Sandler, former Director of General Operations of the National Rifle Association and former Nashua Police Chief, endorses Governor Mitt Romney for President.

In endorsing Governor Romney, Craig Sandler said:

"Throughout his career in both the public and private sectors, Mitt Romney has demonstrated exceptional leadership ability, integrity, and commitment to principle. As a New Hampshire resident, former law enforcement officer, and avid sportsman, I am supporting Governor Romney because he is the candidate who will protect our Constitutional rights and strengthen our nation."

Governor Romney On Parker v. District of Columbia: “It is my hope that the Supreme Court will reaffirm the individual right to keep and bear arms as enshrined in the Bill of Rights and protect law abiding gun owners everywhere.

To further guard this fundamental liberty, as President, I will take care to appoint judges who will not legislate from the bench but will instead strictly interpret the Constitution.”

Question for Romney from Human Events editor Jed Babbin: Do you view the second amendment as vesting an individual right to keep and bear arms? I know the Supreme Court is about to consider the Parker v. District of Columbia case. Aside from the legalities: as you personally look at the Second Amendment, do you think that’s the right of the state or is that the right of the individual gun owner?

Governor Romney: “It’s the right of the individual. I believe that our Constitution vests in the citizens of the United States the right to bear arms, to have weapons for their personal protection, for hunting and for any legal and lawful purpose. I’d like to see our gun laws enforced, to see people who use guns in the committing of crimes in jail for a long time, but I believe that individuals have the right to bear arms, and any incursion on that right, I would find in violation of the constitution.” (Editors of Human Events, "Romney's Four Wedge Issues," Human Events, 11/21/2007)

Oh, so Mitt just couldn't stand the intense, waterboarding-like interrogation of fat Timmy Russert, is that it? Your creativity in excusing Mitt's mendacity rivals that of the biggest Clinton sycophants.

Bottom line is, Mitt will say anything if he thinks it'll get him a momentary political advantage. Don't trust the guy, never will.

Either he was “less than precise,” or he intentionally told a lie for the purpose of garnering support.

What if Romney lied? Does it matter to you?

Or maybe the case is that Romney was “less than precise,” for the purpose of garnering political support.

I run a successful REAL WORLD Business - does that alone qualify me to run for President? I don’t think so!
