School officials say the Ocala 5th grader had brought a piece of steak for her lunch, and had brought a steak knife. According to the report, a couple of teachers took the utensil and called authorities, who arrested the girl and took her to the county’s juvenile assessment center.

"She did not use it inappropriately. She did not threaten anyone with it. She didn't pull it out and brandish it. Nothing of that nature," explained Marion County School Spokesman Kevin Christian, who added that it made no difference what the knife was being used for, they had no choice but to call police.

This is rediculous and I'm getting sick and tired of this kind of crap happening. This was clearly an accident and the little girl had no idea she was doing anything wrong. UGH!!!!!!!

I agree if anyone should be arrested it should be the stupid mother for sending her to school with the knife in the first place. Couldnt the bimbo cut the meat at home then pack it in the bag for the kid.Moron.

At my kids' school they'd be arrested if found in possession of a peanut.

This is about the true measure of Public Schools and the idiots who run them.

But in Maine they’re giving morning after pills to 11 year olds and in other areas 11 year olds can have an abortion without their Parents knowledge of CONSENT.

In California children must attend classes on indoctrination of Homosexual Lifestyle.

It’s over Folks !!!!

I sent an email to Gov. Crist urging him to pardon her, and I would encourage you to do the same. I don’t fault the cops for doing their job, but this is what the pardon power is for—to right injustice caused by strict technical application of the law in situations that don’t really warrant the penalty imposed. We don’t need to prosecute a 10 year old girl for bringing a knife to school to cut her lunch meat. She (and others) can be taught the necessary lesson with measures that don’t remind you of Muslim “justice.”

Just another example of zero tolerance for common sense in our tax funded public schools.

No. What is stupid are the teachers. They could have just taken the knife and sent a note home to the mother telling her of the policy.
Good god to call the police and have her arrested - thats what is stupid.

“No. What is stupid are the teachers. They could have just taken the knife and sent a note home to the mother telling her of the policy.”

Do you think the administration would back the teacher for exercising common sense? The teacher is required to report, then the administration would call the police.

I agree the policy is foolish in its inability to make distinctions between things like this and serious threats.

Doesn’t the school have knives in the cafeteria that a teacher or cafeteria worker could have used to cut her meat for her? Or are all knives, including those cooks would need, outlawed in schools?

I'm guessing that the 5th grader was a smart, intelligent kid, packed her own lunch, and used the common sense that God gave her to bring a steak knife to cut it. Only when she entered the loonie world of adults being too smart by half did it become a problem.

If not for hypersensitive and STUPID school faculty, she would have had her lunch, at most been told to cut her meat at home in the future, and that would have been that.

“...public schools and the idiots who run them.”

Precisely!!! I took my children out of public school after I realized just how ignorant the teachers were. What’s lacking in this story is the NAMES of these teachers who fit the discription: IDIOTS.

In the school my daughters attended, they not only could use eating impliments, but were taught table manners, including how to properly use a KNIFE and fork and the proper way to set a table. Fork on the left of the plate, salad fork to the left of the dinner fork. KNIFE on the right of the plate, BLADE facing the plate, spoon to the right of the KNIFE. The school began this instruction at age FOUR GEESH!!!

“it made no difference what the knife was being used for, they had no choice but to call police.”

I guess this means that knives are universally evil and dangerous, and that thus, they will start using the term “knifeman” when referring to such perp. Just like every perp with a firearm is called “gunman”.

In this case, I guess she would be the “knifegirl” or “knifewoman”.
