Its reprehensible and anyone who votes against a candidate on this basis is a fanatic.
Wrong answer again. This is America, where we have the right to vote or not vote for anyone we darned well please and not be questioned about it.

I have a much greater interest in someone, because of their religion, wanting to cut my head off? Has any Mormon said they wanted to do that??Maybe not lately.....

Some people use the word Jihad when they attack other peoples religion.

I have a much greater interest in someone, because of their religion, wanting to cut my head off? Actually, one's destination in the afterlife is infinitely more enduring than the experience (if unpleasant) of head amputation. Therefore, what one says and believes and does during the physical life is of great interest even if they don't make dramatic threats.

And I agree here, as well, despite my serious differences with certain LDS theology. I'm not a Romney supporter, but that's not because of his Mormonism; it's more his liberalism that bothers me where his candidacy is concerned.

Typical Garbage!
I spent the first 18 years of my life in the Church. I am no longer a practicing Mormon. While some of the above statements are correct...most of them are crap. Mormons do not believe they will become gods. They dont preach that mary was humped by god....I mean come on. Women do not need a secret code ring or password to get into heaven.
Ive dealt with enough bigot Christians to never step foot in a church again. The southern Baptists i dealt with in highschool were the worst. Bashing another religion is not very christ-like...and thats the whole point of being a christian right...to be like christ?
/Rant off

Some people use the word Jihad when they attack other peoples religion. Some mormons on FR call FReepers jihadists and think that is perfectly justified.

Reprehensible, another thread aimed at smearing a candidate because of his religion. Yes, you would expect that a forum of liberal democrats should know better than spread intolerance or perpetuate the myth that there are absolutes in life.
What's that? This isn't a liberal forum?

Gamecock is pretty much on the money with most of his commentary on the LDS church’s answers. However on the gold plates I have a dispute. Brigham Young taught that Joseph Smith took the golden plates back to the Hill Cumorah where the hill opened up into a cave and there was a large record room. Joseph entered this room filled with wagon loads of metallic plates with writing on them and place the plates on a large table in the room where lied the Sword of Laban. A couple years ago I visited the Hill Cumorah Visitors Center near Rochester, New York and asked the tour guide about this record room within the hill. Certainly with modern technology it should be possible to locate this record room. This tour guide professed that nobody really knew which hill Joseph was talking about.

Im interested in the Mormons belief that a person, even after he/she is deceased, can be prayed into Heaven. I believe your confusing Mormons with Catholics. :-)

How likely does that scenario sound, even if you had never heard of Joseph Smith or Mormons or Brigham Young?

In light of these facts: How can someone know the Standard Works are true and Joseph Smith was not a false prophet? I have asked this question many times in the past and I have yet to receive a reasoned response.
As you wish. :-)
Changes in the Book of Mormon
"All of this worry over the number of changes is specious. There are many more variants per word in the New Testament text and many more highly debated variants. Does this variation mean that the New Testament is false? That it is not God's word because humans have made errors in its transmission? The word of God still comes through both the New Testament and the Book of Mormon despite the occasional errors in transmission."

Not very. But to play Mormon's advocate, how likely is it that a guy who claimed to be the son of God be crucified, entombed, and three days later get up and leave? Not very likely, IMO. The discussion isn't about what's likely, but what's the truth.
