Rumor circulating on the Fred08 blog that there is going to be a major "surprise" announcement coming this morning.

Perhaps an NRA endorsement or a major political figure?

FR polls don’t reflect Republican sentiment nationwide, or if they do, it’s only rarely.

FR is comprised mostly of staunch conservatives, as opposed to those who have more moderate or liberal leanings, but still vote Republican.

It has a very high percentage of people who are either one-issue voters, or third-party types. Not the majority, by any stretch, but a far higher percentage than is reflective of the national electorate.

The Free Republic polls reflect the sentiment at this forum, and shouldn’t be extrapolated any further than that.

I pity the poor pollers who are trying to get a grasp on this race in any event. I don’t know how you contact a representative sample. We have many people, particularly those under age 30, who have no phone except their cellphone. And pollsters can’t call cellphones.

An entire demographic is missing. Add to that those who have unlisted phone numbers for their landline. The pollsters can’t call them, either.

How does anyone know how those two groups are leaning at the moment?

Add to that the fact that people are focused on using gift cards, exchanging gifts, watching football, traveling, or whatever this week.

You can poll, but your confidence level has to be horrible.

you have an excellent point there, the mitt supporters on FR make me want to run screaming from Romney, when the guy himself hasn’t really done anything to make me feel that strongly against him.

No doubt. And to think I supported Mr. Perfect for awhile . I saw the light rather quickly , but i’m not sure why some others can’t or won’t .

Bill Clinton is so not attractive.

BTW, give up trying to understand women. It is a futile want. I've given up trying to understand men. :)

It certainly wasn’t an attack. I happen to be a Fred supporter. Most red blooded American man can see the attractiveness of Fred’s wife. You, running to the admin regarding my lame attempt at humor was childish.

The MSM is scared of Fred. They do not want a true conservative.

Yup. They tried attacking him early on; it didn't work.

Now, I'd say that they're studiously ignoring him, while talking up candidates that don't have a snowball's chance (McCain, Huckabee) of winning.

I like Fred, but even objectively speaking, I think Fred has a pretty good chance.

Fred needs to get out there and be more visible. Without some kind of major publicity, the polls are not in his favor. Although do we really believe the polls? We shouldn’t. Daily polling is just a tool for manipulation of public opinion. Go Fred!

I was just about to say the same thing. The truth about polls is this. Has anybody ever seen those survey takers in the mall. How many of us have ducked them and went the other way to avoid them? My point is this. Some people do them because they get a free 5 - 20 dollars. Why not? That will buy me lunch while at the mall. It's mostly poor college students who need the money and would answer the questions quickly without reading the question. Really folks polls are a sham no matter if they swing for the dims or the pubs or libs or conservatives. They are mostly worded wrong and people are answering the question the way it is worded. Another point to consider is, who are REALLY being asked the question? Look how well the polls worked for the Dumborats in 2004. Most polls had John Kerry winning the presidency. The only polls I worry about happen in Feb and Nov.

As far as I can tell from the website, the big announcement is that he’s planning to do a bus tour in Iowa today?
