Fred08.Com ^

Posted on 12/26/2007 7:55:28 AM PST by Onerom99

Rumor circulating on the Fred08 blog that there is going to be a major "surprise" announcement coming this morning.

Perhaps an NRA endorsement or a major political figure?

How about it Freepers? Sound off!

What are you the self-appointed Free Republic cheerleader?

In twenty plus years of military service I learned not to trip over mouse turds. Freeper. Free Republican. Matters not. The point of my post remains the same...this is a conservative forum.

Watching this food fight from afar, I thought I would weigh in with an excerpt from a William Safire column:

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F06E6DA1031F932A35756C0A962958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all

In the initial coinage, the term was in no way synonymous with bimbo. “Enter the second wife: a decade or two younger than her husband, sometimes several inches taller, beautiful and very often accomplished,” wrote the unmarried Ms. Connelly. “The second wife certifies her husband’s status and, if possible given the material she has to work with, dispels the notion that men peak sexually at age 18. This trophy does not hang on the wall like a moose head — she works. Hard. For starters, she often has her own business.”

As a modern modifier, then, trophy most often means “bimbonic” when applied to women, though a second sense remains of “accomplished.” Applied to men, however, trophy is almost always complimentary. Not fair? “Life is unfair,” said President Kennedy, a trophy husband.

Good to hear your perspective on the ground in Iowa, about the only place we are going to hear with any accuracy what is really going on there.

“I’ve heard it, but never seen it. Fred is better looking than Bill, to me. lol.”

To me too! Fred is the REAL Man! Bill is the slime.

If the “BIG” announcement is coming from Drudge, you can forget it having any excitement or truth attached.

I can see it happening and I certainly DO NOT wish for it. Thompson and McCain are redundant, except for the temperment issue and the fact that bad things don’t stick to Fred like they do to McCain.

It’s “initial coinage” is not relevant at this point. Most people understand “trophy wife” to be perjorative. It implies home-wrecker or shallow or valueless beyond physical attractiveness or “bimbonic.” It’s an insult to the woman and the man who married her.

Great quotes. Thanks.

I don't see how anyone could possibly oppose Mitt. No matter what your beliefs are, he's agreed with you at one time or another. :=)

Hmm.

Drudge is in the can for Mitt. (his boyfriend works for Mitt)

So yeah, if it comes from Drudge, odds are its BS.

Your comment is not that far afield from the “pole dancing” posts that got one guy banned...and rightfully so.

“I’m standing up for Fred at the Caucus.”

You’re in the right place at the right time to make a big difference. I wish my primary was not so late.

I think they will sound off in support of a candudate first, long before supporting a political party. How about it Freepers? Sound off!

Yup. I'd support a Democrat, if they'd bother to run one worth a toot. Same with Libertarian. I won't consider the Green Party, since the only people on their ballot are the ones that have little tiny dents all over their bodies, from where people have been poking them with a 10-foot-pole.

Actually, I would prefer to have the Dems run a strong candidate. Forces the Republicans to step their game up. Figure that in 2000, the election was the Democrat's to lose. They ran Gore, and he figured out a way to lose it. Then, in '04, they ran Kerry, who is quite possibly the only person in the world less likeable than Gore.

And what did Republicans get out of it? George Bush. I'd rate him as strong on a few things (Defense and taxes come quickly to mind) but as less than adequate on most others (immigration and spending for two). Were there better candidates out there? Sure, and we're seeing them now. Discounting Huckabee (flash in the pan) and McCain (who isn't a candidate, no matter how much the media wish he was) I think any of the "Big Three" - Thompson, Rudy, Romney - would do a decent job.

I still like Fred, though. /rant off.

Yes I think Drudge drank the Romney koolaide. I suppose it could be that Fred is endorsing Romney. Can't really see that though. Fred would support McCain or no one.
