If you have any doubts as to whether this political campaign season has lasted too long and soured voters on the whole political process, look at the favorable/unfavorable poll ratings of the candidates. Premier pollster Scott Rasmussen's latest polling of likely voters nationally shows that most Democrats and Republicans have higher negative than positive poll numbers. -snip-
Wednesday Rasmussen reported that among Democrats, Hillary Clinton scored 45 favorable/54 unfavorable, Barack Obama's numbers were at 52/45, John Edwards was 48/44, Joe Biden 38/37, with all other Democrats disliked more than they were liked by as much as 23 points.
Republican hopeful John McCain showed the highest favorable rating of all the candidates of any party - 55 favorable/35 unfavorable. Fred Thompson scored 43/34 and Mike Huckabee was tied at 42/42, while the rest of the Republicans were rated more negative than positive. Rudy Giuliani scored 44/49 and Mitt Romney scored 44/45. If the numbers don't change, GOP primary voters will have to ask themselves: Do we want to vote for a candidate whom most American voters don't like?
-snip-
It's not just a matter of winning, but a question of what kind of tone will emanate from Washington in 2009. Wednesday, Clinton's negative rating was 54 percent; on Dec. 20 it was 50 percent. Her unfavorable numbers may fluctuate, but they will not go away.
"She has a good chance of winning," Rasmussen said of Clinton, "but she has very little chance of winning a serious majority."
Without a serious majority, the next president - whoever he or she may be - will walk into the White House hobbled. If it's a 51-49 vote, almost as many people who elected the next president will have a stake in undermining the new commander in chief's success.

Latest from Rasmussen on candidates’ favorable/unfavorable numbers - ping!
From the article (it appears these numbers are based on all voters, dem and pubbie):
“Republican hopeful John McCain showed the highest favorable rating of all the candidates of any party - 55 favorable/35 unfavorable. Fred Thompson scored 43/34 and Mike Huckabee was tied at 42/42, while the rest of the Republicans were rated more negative than positive. Rudy Giuliani scored 44/49 and Mitt Romney scored 44/45. If the numbers don’t change, GOP primary voters will have to ask themselves: Do we want to vote for a candidate whom most American voters don’t like?”
And from Rasmussen’s latest report, among GOP voters Thompson has 67% favorability — the highest favorability ratings of any GOP candidate: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll
Hillary Clinton is the most unlikable and meanest candidate to run for President in decades and for this alone she is not going to be elected President no matter how hard she, her husband, and the media try to do otherwise.
I just hope that conservative infighting doesn’t allow a Democrat to be elected that most Americans don’t like.
I like Fred, but after the nomination, I’ll support whoever is running against Clinton and/or Obama.
You are right. She will grow much older in the senate. Unless, NYers wise up. Or if someone is elected who’ll prosecute her for her crimes.
I see infighting with Guiliani and Romney and Huckabee and McCain, but I don't see much infighting among conservatives.
Like those McCain numbers!
A vote for any other candidate is one up for the democrats - don’t let it happen!
Let’s quit the so-called “infighting” and get united for one candidate. John McCain has the best chance of winning (bringing in some votes from Independents & Moderates too). Let’s show that our party isn’t really all that divided & pull together for the most qualified, most experienced & most electable guy.
Go ahead & vote for McCain - you can do it!
No. I cannot.
Regarding John McCain— wow.
From your mouth to God’s ears

And, as if we didn’t already know that she doesn’t know ca ca about politics, she started her campaign way, way early so that EVERYONE could learn to hate her before election day.
Thank you Mrs. Klintoon!
He’s been so far down in the polls that nobody’s really pushing his negatives up with advertising.
But he has name recognition that gives him good favorables.
Other candidates have smaller “unfavorables”, but their favorables are also really low because people don’t know them.
And right now, people are using polls to push their candidates — note that the higher in the polls a candidate is, the higher their unfavorables tend to be, because people are saying the opposition is “unacceptable” in order to help their candidates.
I will not ever forget being branded by McCaniac and his minions as ignorant white racist trailer trash for not supporting the give away of my country.
Youre kidding right?
I believe it's even better in Iowa, where he leads the field with something like a 77% favorable rating.
The gall of these people namely mcinsane never ceases to amaze me.I guess he just figures we have forgotton. He figures wrong.
Thanks for the daily pick me up, she (Hill) is not going to be elected President no matter how hard she, her husband, and the media try to do otherwise.
Huckabee has surged because he won a couple of debates and hes got evangelical support. If a quick rise can happen to the liberal pro-life evangelical Huckster, it can happen to the conservative pro-life evangelical Hunter.
