despite those serious differences, I thought there was much to like and admire about Ron Paul.
What I had always appreciated about him was his outspoken support for the Constitution, the fact that he didn't get caught up in the trappings of Washington power, that he wasn't a hypocrite.
I believed all that. And I have to thank Tim Russert for blowing his cover.
I just simply didn't know that Ron Paul plays the Washington racket just like the rest of the gang. The only difference is he has figured out a system of plausible deniability for himself a way he can still maintain his image of incorruptibility and integrity, while bringing home the pork to his Texas district with the kind of efficiency that would make Robert Byrd blush.
Ron Paul developed his reputation as a constitutional tax fighter and proponent of limited government through decades of voting "no."
But that hasn't stopped him from earmarking federal tax dollars for his district's own pet pork projects to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars!
Paul defended his actions on "Meet the Press" in spin that would make Bill Clinton proud.
"I've never voted for an earmark in my life," he explained. "I'm against the tax system, but I take all my tax credits. I want to get their money back for the people."
This is actually as ingenious as it is immoral.

You’re kidding!
Taft is the root of the Republican Party? I did not know that... I thought he was a very ineffective President more than 100 years after the Republican Party was founded... LOL
He doesn't support earmarks, but he earmarks.
He isn't an anti-Semite, but accepts money from White Supremacists.
If we just leave the Islamonazis alone, they will leave us alone.
He isn't really at 4% in the polls, he's actually much higher than that.
Today we saw, yet again, the face of Al Qaeda. And Paul, I would assume, remains in denial. How anyone can support this nut, is beyond me.
You forgot Ross Perot...
Thanks, now I can better understand the 4% in America who believe this fraud...
sorry..........i stand corrected..... :)
And you bought into that Clintonesque double-speak.
My God, I thought you had cerebral power to see through B.S. and spin.
I stand corrected.
Finally, the media/public is seeing through the Ron Paul inconsistencies.
Here are just a few:

So, if we waterboard Ron Paul, strip him of his Congressional seat, incarcerate his family for life, burn his books, sell off his assets and kick his dog, will that be enough punishment?
How dare this guy not be more honest and less a politician than ALL the other Republicans (and Dems) running for the nomination.
And it's obvious you have purchased knee-pads and have turned into an instant "excuse machine" for a pathetic politician that can't even give a straight answer to a question.
You are to be pitied more than him because he knows he's lying, but you never catch on.
You need to sign up for AOL and join your peers.
Each of them represent a small fraction of American thinking, and get to use the stage for about a year to steer the election (that they know they can’t win) toward their way of thinking.
This is just another candidate who can’t possibly win, but his camp tries to convince the rest of the world that he has the momentum. What a joke.
Paul has raised money, but it simply does not translate into a surge in the polls, and will not get him a victory in one single primary/caucus.
We’ll just have to put up with the Ronbots for a few more months, and they go away. Does anyone else besides me notice that we don’t hear much from the Rootybots lately?
I don’t get this whole earmark argument against Paul. It seems similar to taxes to me. Many people hate paying taxes and wish they would not have to pay taxes and that the whole tax system sucks. They do however, in the end, pay their taxes. So because they hate the tax system - they should expect nothing back from the government who collected the tax? Seems like odd logic.
“Not a single elected official would survive if they failed to bring back the bacon (fed bucks) to their district or state.”
Actually there are a couple in the House of Reps who pledged not to earmark and didn’t. One is a woman.
Yep... Thanks for posting AuntB...
Honest????
Less a politician?????
He “ear-marks” just like every other politician, except he lies about it, unlike all the others. Even Teddy Kennedy is honest enough to admit what he’s doing. Yet you think Paul is more honest for hiding his ear-marks behind false NO votes???
Have you checked your pulse lately? You might be brain dead...
Sounds right...
The difference is the deception....
Didn’t your momma ever talk to you about lying?
“What gives you the idea that I like Ted Stevens any better than Ron Paul?”
Because Paul has a 95% rating from the Citizens Against Government Waste. Ted Stevens is in the 30s and you have never dedicated a word to criticizing him. You merely rant on and on about the guy with one of the best records in the country.
I didn’t know Ted Stevens was running for president on the false platform that “he has never voted for an ear-mark” while writing ear-marks into bills all his career...
How did I miss this??? LOL

Even so, how does this make him a “hero of mine?”
