Thompson Shows His Lighter Side
CBS News ^ | 12/27/2008 | John Bentley

While Senator Thompson is usually pretty serious on the campaign trail, he's been letting his lighter side show through recently. Visiting a gun shop in downtown Missouri Valley, Iowa, he found a cardboard cutout of one of his favorite actors, John Wayne. The former actor couldn’t help himself, so he moseyed on over to the Duke, put his arm around him, and did his best John Wayne impression.

At another stop, Thompson was asked if he was getting Sioux City déjà vu because he’s been there three times. He said he has the song “Sioux City Sue” running through his head, then proceeded to sing a little bit of the 1940's standard.

“he found a cardboard cutout of one of his favorite actors, John Wayne”

IMHO this just adds to his resume.

They must have run out of cardboard for that John Wayne cutout. I think John and Fred would have been about eye to eye standing next to each other.

Hope Fred picks up steam and gets the nomination.

Based on results so far, I give him about a 10% chance.

Is it my imagination, or is the Rather network paying more attention to Fred the past few days?

This news is several days old yet CBS is running it like it was a recent event.

I guess the reporters took a long vacation too and still needed to meet a deadline.

You should give Fred some credit, at least he wasn't pheasant hunting for a disingenuous photo op. ; )

I haven't been keeping up with politics like I should lately.

Which one is Huckabee, the one on the left or the one on the right?

I had to check AltaVista, but you're right. John Wayne was 6'4" compared to Fred's 6'5".
