Ok, I know I said the caucuses are too close to call.  But I just can't help myself.  So here are my predictions for tonight's battle in the heartland.

Republicans Mike Huckabee - 30% Mitt Romney - 19% Fred Thompson - 18% Ron Paul - 14% John McCain - 13% Rudy Giuliani - 5% Duncan Hunter - 1%

Democrats Barack Obama - 38% John Edwards - 29% Hillary Clinton - 25% Bill Richardson - 5% Joe Biden - 2% Others - 1%

IMO Thompson and Romney are "seeing the light." I would be so happy if either Hunter or Thompson would win.

I'm sorry but I just don't trust that either of them have "seen the light" anymore than Huckabee has. What I see here is no action on the part of either Mitt or Thompson on handling illegal immigration when they held office, and a few campaign promises now. Hunter put through and got legislation passed for a border fence. He got one built in San Diego. Mitt and Thompson allowed illegal immigration to go on unchallenged. So Mitt and Fred promise to build a fence--so does Huckabee. I don't believe Huckabee is unelectable because of his skills in communication. Huckabee shines when Fred pauses and Mitt stumbles. Hunter does an amazing job when the press lets him speak.

Why is everyone giving Fred and Mitt a pass and jumping on Huckabee when there is just as much reason to jump on Fred and Mitt from the objections I have seen raised. All three should be looked on very cautiously.

News flash, we are NOT a theocracy.

It may be an issue that will some day go back to the states.
Some states will do it, others will stop or limit them in the future in my opinion.

The President can talk about the issue, but he couldn’t do anything beyond appointing the right justices to slide the social engineering back the other way.

I do not believe in abortion either, but it is through one on one talks with people, not laws and harsh protesting where hearts and minds will change. All that does is make people did in harder for abortion.

Huckabee has a lot of problems but I am shocked at the level of animosity towards his candidacy around here. Huckabee is a fiscal moderate and yes this is a bad thing. However, many Freepers seem to view this as worse then Giuliani who is a social liberal. Are we really so shallow that we would care more about our taxes then about the lives of millions of babies?

I agree w/you...what's surprising, tho, is that we never saw these kinds of things posted in thread & thread when Huck wasn't perceived as a "threat." (That wasn't true, BTW, of Romney).

So I take that to mean that if he was the level of threat folks now make him out to be, then we'd seen that level of animosity all throughout '07. (But we didn't in FReeper posts).

Conclusion: Basically, it seems that it's not Huck's bad side on the issues that motivated many folks as much as that he threatened their fave candidate's voter turf. Now that's not true of some FReeper's, who have been issuing Huck warnings all throughout '07. (So I'm not talking about those folks). I'm only talking about those that if you review their comments for the past two months, you'll see they went from 0 to 150 MPH just like a snap of their fingers.

NumbersUSA said that FRed has one of the best records on immigration of the frontrunners.

I guess him doing nothing is better than Huckabee, Romney, and McCain actively encouraging it.

What about protecting marriage from takeover by gays? What about opposing homosexual activists' agenda? What about religious liberty issues? What about healthcare?

Well, I'm glad one of his supporters is listing his conservative bonafides. I tried to get another supporter to list why they felt Huck deserved conservative support and rather than provide any detail, he listed the campaign site.

Once I've done my initial research on the net, I'm not going to bother with a candidate's platform, I go by their track record.

I will say, and not as a flame, that while those points are good, fiscally Huckabee doesn't come on strong as a conservative and his record is ambiguous at best, with multiple tax hikes and nanny-state policies that drove me off immediately.

However, my advice is to continue to hammer his conservative record as much as possible. It's the only way to sustain interest in this forum.

It doesn't really work like that...candidate speeches come first, then voting. My caucus won't be representative of the rest though; it's going to be a complete circus.
