Fred to MSM: "I Owe You Nothing."
nationalreview ^ | 01/06/08 | Jonathan Adler

Fred Thompson has been understandably frustrated with the media's obsession with "process" and horserace stories, particularly when media outlets fanned false rumors that he was ready to get out of the race. So Team Thompson is understandably happy with this exchange from NBC's Today Show, in which he refused to engage speculation about the source of anti-Thompson rumors and told Lester Holt "I owe you nothing."

“When Fred Thompson is our president, he should start a media misery index.”

Those in the MSM may be miserable, but at least they won’t have to spend August in Texas. Ha!

He did no more and no less than all politicians have done since time immemorial; my point was that the media settled its score with him by pretending that he invented dishonesty.

It is true, as the previous posted pointed out, that in thise days the MSM had covered itself in the veneer of “objective truth”. We rubes actually trusted and believed old Walter Cronkite, et. al. to be truth-tellers. Now, at least for those of us who pay attention, we know what liars they were and are.

“Anyway I was disappointed that Rush just turned the question back to her and then played off of her speculation to pretty much imply that Fred needs to give more pithy sound bites so they’ll play them more on TV. I wished he hadn’t seemed so eager to sidestep the real issue—and had given an actual answer.”

Well IMHO, this time will be different.

Rush invented the term DBM because he also can’t stand their bias.

Fred told them face to face “I owe you nothing”. I really think that Rush will pick up on that because it is in the news and he likes nothing more that poking his thumb in their eye!

If Rush does that will also be news and you heard it here first!

Fred wasn’t talking with the network’s entertainment division on that video. He was talking to what is loosely referred to as the “news” division.

Learn the difference

There’s a difference these days? Let him criticize a related profit center and he’ll very quickly see there is no difference. Just for yucks, he can start by talking about how the Saudis own a large chunk of News Corp/Fox or some of the concessions they’ve made for the Chinese gubmint.

Good reply! In my dreams President Thompson sets the record straight concerning the “Watergate Affair”.

Yeah, he said that just like Rush said all soldiers who hated the Iraq war are phoney soldiers. Fred was making the point that he had not been running since middle school like Clinton or elem. school like Obama, or willing to spend an obscene amount of money to buy it, like Romney. He was stating that being President was not the be-all and end-all of his life.( like McCain who has been running for at least 8 years), although without mentiioning the names I did.He said he was qualified and felt he could do a good job and entered the race to win it

Nevertheless, Fred gave a "sound bite" that can be taken out of context and used against him. Therein lies the disgust most people have of the media.

QUESTION: Since this is a Fred thread, someone please advise on the following. A freeper posted he could not vote for Fred because he had been a lobbyist for an abortion orgn. I thought I remembered he had been a lawyer for a firm representing an abortion orgn., which is a whole nother ballgame. When you are a lawyer for a firm, you represent its' clients whether abortion orgn. or mass murderer. That is what lawyers are sworn to do. Fred's voting record in the Senate is prolife all the way. Comments?

US Misery Index was a big thing during Jimmy Carter's tenure.

Misery Index = Unemployment rate + Inflation rate

I'm trying to come up with Media Misery Index for President Thompson to use.

Media Misery Index = Journalists' Unemployment rate + Fact Inflation rate?

You said:
Fred to MSM: “I Owe You Nothing....except a lifetime of residuals from Law & Order.”

I know what you said. Now, what did you really mean to say?

So, it was not the dismissal of the media some here are taking it to be.

No, not a general dismissal of the media.

But it was clearly a dismissal of the media on the point at hand.

There is campaign gold to be mined with this approach, methinks.

I have to side with Fred, I am well past tired of the MSN horse s**t. The whole pack of lies that Hillary is actually a warm person who gives a rat's ass about children or the poor.

The Junior Senator from Illinois is a socialist. That's it.

Edwards is Huey Long with a better haircut and a nice suit.

But, the MSN loves them.

It was a joke. The assumption being that he was beholden to the media. If you want to take it seriously, you can say that Fox or any other network can buy L&O rights to re-run the shows, but specify shows where he doesn’t appear — thus depriving him of income.

But again, it was a joke.

Oh, I see. You meant that Fred was possibly beholding to the major TV networks. Because they have the power to say whether or not L&O would be shown, thus determining Fred’s income from the residuals.

Whew! I guess you are saying that Fred is taking a chance of alienating the networks. But I don’t know what that has to do with Fred’s refusal to allow the media to control his interviews. But maybe it makes sense to you.

LOL.

Just curious, but do you and Huck share the same crystal ball?

Since you can predict the future, which lotteries have you (and he) won so far?

Again, it was a joke. Broad strokes — a guy who earned his living in the media, says he doesn’t owe the media anything.

Look, it’s a good strategy. Folks like to see the pretty people of network TV news “put in their place” by a plain talking, no nonsense guy.

The Politico is largely to blame for not checking with the Thompson campaign before making the false statements about Fred last week.

They claimed it was Thompson's staff that was their source.

Basically, Fred is telling the media to do their own fact checks before they run a story, and as for Molt asking Fred for the candidate's name, Fred was telling him to go and look it up for yourself.
There is more and more news coming out that it was Mitt Romney's campaign who put out those lies about Fred dropping out.

The real news now should be that Mitt Romney’s campaign ingadged in gutter/sleazy politics to gain votes.... that is the REAL story that should be shouted from the house tops.

That maybe true, but, things are different now with the " NEW MEDIA ".
Today, the Old Media can't get way with their lies anymore.
Back then, they dominated everything, today, we got Rush, Freerepublic.
