Huckabee Defends Joke About Fred
cbsnews ^ | 01/12/08 | Joy Lin

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Asked about Fred Thompson’s “hatchet” attack against him at Thursday's Republican debate, Mike Huckabee joked to Joe Scarborough that he thought “Fred needs some Metamucil. I think it would help a lot if he gets some. You know, he was in a bad mood last night.”

On the bus with reporters on Route 96 in Michigan from Lansing to Grand Rapids, Huckabee explained his Metamucil comment saying, “You have to understand the context of the show….It’s not quite as irreverent as Imus…not quite Stephen Colbert but it’s serious topics with an edge.”

“I really do believe if people can’t have some sense of humor as they approach this stuff, then it causes everybody to be so locked down and consultant driven that their campaigns become so boring because all they’re going to do is give this robotic answer to everything that’s very carefully scripted. I promise you, you won’t have moments like this,” Huckabee said, gesturing to the handful of reporters that had gathered around him for an on-the-record conversation that would last about 40 minutes.

“Does Romney do these?” Huckabee asked the reporters. No, replied one. Neither does Thompson, said another.

“If I thought I couldn’t be a human being. That I gotta wait till six handlers tell me what I can and can’t say and I have to read it, you know, it’s not worth it.”

He is a classic “Passive/Aggressive”. A good definition is a St. Bernard with his paws on your shoulders, licking your face while peeing on your feet.

One can make very convincing arguments that the Roosevelt Administration was negligent at best, or worse, on this issue. (Several books address these topics.)

The only way we will win the WH is with a dead on conservative, like Fred. The only reason he hasn't moved up higher is due to lack of positive media coverage, the media is pushing the candidates they want, all of the liberals and Rinos. In the South Fred will shine in the primaries and Huckabee will not.

BTW, if you don't like right wing politics you should not be on this forum, there are several other forums for left wing politics, DU being the best known of these. Perhaps you should try posting there. Republican is supposed to be conservative, if you want liberal then should register as a Democrat or maybe you already are.

Past actions you say...

You mean, like his 100% Pro-Life voting record?

Memberships you say...

You mean like how all these pro-life organizations are endorsing him?

The rest of this conspiracy, guilt by stretched logic diatribe is the sort of thing from the John Birch Society.

If you buy a suscription to Foreign Affairs magazine: Congratulations! in addition to a great magazine offering widely differing points of view written by major players in foreign policy, you just became a member of the massive world-wide super-secret conspiracy known as CFR. Something must be wrong, because when I had a subscription, I never got the super secret tea that forced me to believe every word published - kind of like how I sometimes disagree with what it written in AOPA Pilot magazine.

I guess that whole thing by Kennan on containment (originally proposed in FA) was really a dirty trick by the ruskies and one-worlders?

Oh, and don’t let me forget to mention your concept of trade is populist inspired protectionism and tariffs (aka taxes!) so high that we can’t compete or afford anything; while every advocate of free trade I ever heard (can you say Ronald Reagan) made it clear that free trade needed to be reciprocal...can you say “fair trade”.

See, I’ve actually been outside your county and my county; I’ve even left my state before, not to mention the US and North American continent - there are a lot of people out here we can sell US made quality products to (= jobs, = revenue).

There are also some wackos out here who want to kill us for our ideas and existence, regardless of our foreign policy; I’d rather hunt them down and kill them here, then wait until they show up on my doorstep. Call it what you want...

Hey Huck,
You started the ad-hominem. All Thompson need have done was to flash a picture of Huckabee’s “approved” family portrait. If that ain’t an ad for Metamucil.........

Good, I guess you were being sarcastically truthful.

You forgot that they were more gullible and dumber than a bag of hammers!

My comment is more about this part of the piece....

“gesturing to the handful of reporters that had gathered around him for an on-the-record conversation that would last about 40 minutes.”

So, it is off the record, yet they report what he said during the meeting anyway? That is extremely unethical journalism......

As for the joke, that was just lame.

What is with his constant sarcasm?

And since when is snarky “in” for a possible CIC?

He is not a serious wartime President, and I think he knows it, therefore the smart-aleck comments are never ending.

Hey, at least elephant08 is honest enough to admit that Huck’s not a conservative, which is more than we can say for most of Huck’s supporters on here....

They know exactly what they are doing. But some are more honest than the others as you said. I encountered a very radical Huckabee supporter Freeper a few days ago. He saw his 'people', evangelicals, being ignored by the secular Republican elites and declared a war against them whom he considered to be his people's enemies. His goal was to take over the Republican party, then the media, and academia. It was quite a shock to me.

Exactly. Fred calls Huck a Democrat and Huck implies he's just cranky. Which is worse? I take fiber supplements, but I don't want to be called a Dim. I think Fred is a drowning man who wants to take Huck down with him.

Thompson made very specific points about Huckabee's past and proposed policies, and demonstrated that by and large, Huck's philosophy was more consistent with our opponents than with conservatives. Huck said Fred was constipated.

Yeah, those are the same. /s Sad that you don't see the difference.

Maybe fred was right, maybe he wasn’t. But huckabee’s response does not make him the devil incarnate.

No. Just your garden-variety twit. I suspect the Devil would be wittier.

I have heard the same, of course its laughable since the social conservative have had a litmus test for the Presidency for decades and decades.

And government keeps growing and growing and growing and growing.

The only thing that surprises me about Huckabee’s comment is that he suggested Fred try Metamucil rather than snake oil.

Oooooo.... that was good!

It’s time to start the show,

A few years ago, people on Free Republic were falling all over themselves for Huckabee’s guitar playing at Freeper events.

So we should want him for President? I fall all over myself at the very sight of Keanu Reeves, but let me tell you, I do NOT want him for President.

"Why is there so much hatred for Huck on this sight?"

When you can distingish between "Sight & Site", and learn to recognize that "Experience and Intelligence" creates "Vision" -- not "blindness" ----- then your comments as a newby may one day be recognized as an intelligent contribution...

The Huckster has earned every bit of contempt being showered on his illegal alien pandering, tax increasing, snake oil peddling and lying ass.

He never refutes anything. When he did that “ad” he “didn’t run” about Romney that was supposed to “set the record straight” about Romney pointing out the facts about Huckabee, there wasn’t a single word in the ad that said anything about Huckabee, much less anything “correcting” something Romney said.

Instead, it was a “mote in your eye” commercial, simply attacking Romney, as if to say unless you are perfect, you can’t criticize me.

Huckabee does seem to like talking with reporters a lot more than some other candidates.

Probably but I notice when I talk with conservatives it’s more about lowering taxes, border security etc. Those leaning Democrat ..well it tends to be more about services...raising wages, large ss checks, medical benefits etc. I guess it just depends on if you feel it is better for our country to save and prepare for the future or spend.

They are willing to vote for ‘their man,’ Huckabee even though he is a pinko, just because he is ‘one of them.’
