In a time when many Americans, especially Republicans and other conservatives, talk about the current illegal immigration problem, many either dont realize or dont care that the only presidential candidate who has actually done something about securing the border is polling about 1 percent and, as a result, is being left out of the debates Duncan Hunter.
Congressman Hunter built the double-border fence along San Diego County, reducing illegal immigration by 90 percent and drug smuggling by 50 percent. He is also the author of the Secure Fence Act, which was passed into law last year.
Immigration is not his only strong asset, as Congressman Hunter is a veteran, former chairman of the Armed Services Committee and father of a son who served three tours in the War on Terror.
The GOP wants to tout itself as the party that is tough on terror and tough on illegal immigration, but the polling of someone with Duncan Hunters credentials and the lack of talk about him on conservative talk radio tell a completely different story.
If fighting terrorism and securing the border really are priorities of the GOP, then what credentials do Romney, Huckabee and Giuliani have?

Yep, the powers that be are defining our campaign for us as they have the GOP. They don’t want us voting a conservative in office; and they don’t want us to even think about it. They want to keep us divided to keep us under control so they can choose the next POS.
I don’t know about you; but I am really angry.
Just about everyone on FR likes and agrees with Hunter, and that probably also goes for Republicans and conservatives generally.
But he doesn’t have that certain something, call it charisma or whatever.
Not to mention that I’ve heard his campaign press manager being interviewed in a broadcast forum with honchos from other campaigns, and he is flat-out dull as donuts, and not terribly articulate. 95 percent of the press/PR people I’ve ever known (in a previous professional life) are outgoing, fun, smart, responsive, and ..... relentless. Hunter’s flak seems like the opposite.
It's safe to say that 99% of Republicans on FR and nationwide love Duncan Hunter, and have enormous respect for his conservative leadership, and courage.
That is different than wanting him to be Republican nominee for US President.
I like his personality. And most on FR like his personality. And most rock-ribbed conservatives like his personality.
But there is a mystery ingredient in a man's personality which is vital to their being considered a viable Presidential candidate.
Duncan, love him politically, would not do well against the Dems in the general election in Nov. '08.
Sorry, but that is how most people see it.
That all fine and you’re probably right. Hunter’s campaign, from what I’ve heard, has been disorganized.
But still, the point is that the GOP claims to be the party tough on terror and tough on illegal immigration. However, the candidate who has actually done something about securing the border AND who has as much credentials as anyone else on that stage for leading as Commander-in-Chief during wartime is polling the lowest.
That probably says something about his campaign staff, but it also says something about the Republican Party and its voters, and it’s not positive.
I’ve heard very few criticisms of him on the issues. There’s just something about him which doesn’t connect with the public.
Pretty much agree. Border security is important, but there are MANY issues. Can't see the federal government focusing all their resources on people who come here to work and those that employ them. Even if they wanted too, they couldn't effectively get everyone. The Bucanan types are NOT mainstream.
If you look at the past 4 presidents, they have all come across as positive and generally affable. The libs easily turned Nixon into a "fascist" type personality. The Nixon backlash gave us Carter.
Just this morning on CNN..( gives a fair coverage of Hunter, more so than FOX)...
they listed the six candidates (no Hunter)
..but when it came to displaying who had actual delegates, they HAD to include Hunter, even with his ONE he has more than Giuliani or Paul...
..but Giuliani still gets face time, news bits, cute stories, etc.
Paul too.
I'm in this with Hunter because someone or something is diabolically keeping him out of this race and I'm mad as heck and not going to take it anymore!
To be overly blunt about it, leadership doesn’t spring from “positions” and “issues” only, but from the man himself. You can like that or not, but that’s the way it is, and always has been.
Are we voting for personality or the man? LOL
Look what we got when Clinton and Carter were elected? Even Arnold. This should tell you that all the money; publicity; cuteness will not elect the best candidate. And so far; it’s batting a thousand we won’t elect the best candidate. Aren’t some of you atleast wondering why we have the candidates we do and why we are so cynical because we know most of those candidates are running opposite of what they say they are?
We have got to start electing our Presidents and public officials on the basis of issues; not “can they win” electability. This not only destroys good candidates; we also lose our values and goals. Our foundation crumble and our issues are lost.
Then it needs to be changed. I am not electing a person on a 30 second soundbite; just because it’s always been done.
I thought Paul had 2 delegates??
Then you don’t know anything about Duncan Hunter. He is not a one issue candidate.
No mention, no face time, no cute stories to generate interest, no interviews with wife, family, especially his military son, no touting of his devotion to family issues, pro-life issues, border control issues....NOTHING!
The media, the powers that be, have effectively ignored & suppressed him.
Does that not ring a tiny alarm bell in your head?
It sure does mine!
Yep, Bill Clinton connected with the public and so did Jimmy Carter who has no personality. Wonder why? LOL
I don’t know if you have seen this. It is very interesting to me. http://www.opensecrets.org/overview/industries.asp?cycle=2008
