Ice Returns as Greenland Temps Plummet
ICECAP.US ^ | January 17, 2008 | Icecap.us staff

On Disko Bay in western Greenland, where a number of prominent world leaders have visited in recent years to get a first-hand impression of climate change, temperatures have dropped so drastically that the water has frozen over for the first time in a decade. “The ice is up to 50cm thick,” said Henrik Matthiesen, an employee at Denmark’s Meteorological Institute who has also sailed the Greenlandic coastline for the Royal Arctic Line. ‘We’ve had loads of northerly winds since Christmas which has made the area miserably cold.’ Matthiesen suggested the cold weather marked a return to the frigid temperatures common a decade ago.

Temperatures plunged to -25C earlier this month, clogging the bay with ice and making shipping impossible for small crafts, according to Anthon Frederiksen, the mayor of the town of Ilulissat, where Disko Bay is located. The mayor cautioned against thinking that the freezing temperature indicated that global warming claims were overblown. He noted that a nearby glacier had retracted more in the past two decades than in recorded history. But he noted “‘We Greenlanders have acclimated to changing conditions over the past 1100 years,” said Frederiksen. “Temperatures change at regular intervals.”

NASA satellite image of Greenland. You clearly see the ice cap covering almost entire Greenland even in this non-winter photo. Only in summer are the coastal areas free of snow. On the far left you can see Baffin Island.

The link to the complete article does not yet show the text, but will no doubt be fixed later. So I have included it below:

Please note this dinosaur media report, posted yesterday, which has the usual Chicken-little tale of disaster:

Oh what a dark and dreary day for the religion of global worming. Some days it must be nearly impossible to get out of bed, when your world is crashing down all around you.

A huh, a huh, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

Regarding the story "Greenland Ice Sheet Rapidly Melting, Scientists Find" linked above, a key phrase was put at the very end of that article that says a lot about both the facts of the story and journalists' attempts to continue to perpetrate this fraud on the public:

However, its report acknowledged that temperatures in southern Greenland during the 1930s and 1940s were at least as warm as in recent years.

Of course the informed in the world know that such extreme temperature changes, even from warmer to colder, are more proof of global warming.....

I was reading some place that global warming peaked in 1998 and that we are now heading the other way. The natural cycle continues as it always has.

Of course!

BTW, no doubt global warming will be talked about together with football on Sunday. From the main link to this article:

Frigid for the Playoffs

By Joseph D’Aleo, CCM

The AFC and NFC title games will share one thing in common, frigid temperatures. In Green Bay, where the Packers host the Giants, temperatures will be near to sub-zero. In Foxboro where the Patriots take on the Chargers, temperatures will be at game time in the teens and maybe by late in the game high single numbers. In both locations the cold will come with winds (especially Foxboro) and numbing wind chill and maybe a few snowflakes. Not exactly ideal conditions for football for players nor those who prefer to come and watch the game in person rather than in more comfort at home. We’ll leave it to you to decide how that will affect the games outcomes.

It's interesting how the expression "climate change" is replacing "global warming."

Forecast for my favorite Canadian Arctic hotspot, Iqaluit, shows that while today will see a balmy high of 9F, 15 of the first 16 days of January were well below normal, and for next ten days, high temps will be -20F. BTW, Packer forecast for Sunday calls for the second LOWEST temperature at kickoff in Packer history. Only colder game was the ‘Ice Bowl’ in 60’s. The ‘frozen tundra’ is returning to Green Bay, and it appears Greenland too!

Anybody care to take bets on when the "Global Warming" mantra will be officially scrapped in favor of the new PC term "Climate Change"?

Any of you out there remember the official line of the early 1970's that we were creating a new ice age?
