I see that some people (Adler, Geraghty) are calling for Fred to stay in the race. The practical consequence of Thompson's presence so far has been to hand South Carolina to McCain. It's seems unlikely that this dynamic will change in other southern states. All Thompson is managing to do is to split the conservative vote and clear the way for McCain.
Adler also makes the improbable claim that Romney has been revealed as a very weak candidate, even though the information is right there on The Corner that Romney has garnered more votes so far than anyone else in the race.
Lastly, Romney gets slammed for spending money. He is the only candidate running who is attempting to win or place in every state. Giuliani, who also has spent quite a lot, has abandoned most of the country. Fred made a minimal effort outside SC. I half expect a plea for campaign finance reform to follow some of these complaints that Romney is spending too much money. It's very strange.
UPDATE: Another:
Fred is "splitting" the conservative vote with Huckabee. Don't ask me why a conservative would vote for Huckabee, but without Fred, Huckabee would have won S.C. big. If all of Fred's votes had gone to Romney, he still would have been third. Fred should stay in. I'd rather see a brokered convention than Huckabee or McCain as the nominee before then.

Against Hillary or Obama, I will vote for any GOP nominee, unless it's Huckleberry or Paul, in which case I'll stay home.
And Huckleberry's certain eventual departure will give a big boost to Fred. Huckleberry hasn't expanded on his base, and CAN'T. Not only that, the Huckster hasn't too much money. Even more, except for his core followers, he scares the besnoopies out of folks.
McCain will start doing less well too, as we move into states with closed primaries. McCain gets a lot of his support from crossover plinkers. If Fred stays in, runs an economic, targeted, campaign, he'll see his numbers improve. He is almost everyone's fallback.
I am NOT impressed with primaries that allow the opposition to vote in your election. Sad day when so many states give up their own elections to independents and dems.

Fred? Fred Who? Was there a contender in there named Fred? If you are talking about that Law and Order Fred, IMHO he should have stayed with Law and Order because he only enabled Lib McCain.....

You are speaking WAAAAAY too soon. McCain isn't going to continue to do well in states with closed primaries.
You could say just the opposite, couldn't you? If Huckabee hadn't been in the race, all his votes might have gone to Fred. Makes as much sense, doesn't it?
Fred isn’t out until he says he is out. So far, he has not said it and I don’t think he would because he is going on to Super Tuesday as far as I know. Enjoy the debate this Thursday! Know I will! Will also enjoy voting for Fred on January 29th! GO FRED!
IMHO your HO ain't worth a pile of camel dung. Fred is the best hope for America and his entering the race was the best thing that could have happend to the pubbie prez race. He still has a shot at saving this country from the ongoing push to the left and as long as there is any hope of that AT ALL he should stay in.
