Thompson To Drop Out [Vanity]

Posted on 01/21/2008 8:13:53 AM PST by PurpleMan

Just heard on Laura Ingram (quoting Carl Cameron of FoxNews) that Thompson will drop out tomorrow.

Bad results, ill mother....

Romney has been playing dirty tricks on Thompson since the fake website Romney put up before Thompson got in the race.

I agree that Romney did some nasty things at the beginning of the campaign, but lately I think he has changed his ways. I guess you could call it flip flop, but I call it learning a valuable lesson.

Actually, this primary season has been a really sickening display of how the media is manipulating the minds of sheeple at will. The fix is in on a multitude of levels.

All i can say is that we are not powerless. If the new media can topple Dan Rather and swiftboat “Jon Carey”, it can find a way to get other information out too.

Obama and Hillery scare me. It scares me even more to hear people I know are intelligent in other arenas supporting them and buying their cover stories. Most people do not look below the surface and have no comprehension of the evil that is out there. I am so thankful for FR, where we can get a deeper, broader picture.

For what it’s worth, I watched CNN this morning instead of FOX...first time in years.

Fred will not be at the top of your ticket idea, the best Fred can hope for would be VP, and I personally don’t see that as an option.

The only reason I want Fred first is because he is old has heck and can’t run in eight years as he will be pushing 80. Romney is at least 15 years younger than Fred and can run in 2016. Do we want another open ticket again? I don’t this is ridiculous.

Thompson was born in 42, Romney in 47. Must be the die job.

Do you speak as a Fred supporter? Or have you been supporting another candidate?

All religions start out as a cult including apparently whatever form of bigotry religioun you espouse.

Great screen name. Fits you.

Yes...I'm bigoted against cults.

30 years ago it would have been called common sense.

Today, people like you try to make it politically incorrect to refuse to vote for a candidate with nutty beliefs that rival Dennis Kucinich's UFO theories.

Won't vote for Hare Krishnas.

Won't vote for Scientologists.

...and won't vote for a Mormon either.

Sue me.

Have fun with it! Just to remind you...

When Scooter Libby was being dragged through the mud, who was the ONLY ONE to have the balls to stand up for Libby?

That’s the type of quality individual you lose should Fred surrender.

It’s also the thanks Fred gets from the RINO Party Elite.

If President Reagan were running today, his own party would do him in.

But character is revealed. Just as someone who only stops cheating because it isn’t working has revealed his/her character.

They saddled him with the RINO Bush, even then, after trying to do him in without success.

If Thompson goes, I go to. It’ll be Lib v. Lib in November.

I’ll vote conservative in local elections, but nationally I’ll write in Thompson.

1. Romney planted the fake “Thompson-is-dropping-out” Politico story before the Iowa cacuses to suppress Thompson support.

2. Romney camp openly brags about silly dirty tricks like sending room service (and a wake up call) to Thompson’s room at 4:30 am the morning of one of the debates. (It woke up Mrs. Thompson and the children; by the Grace of God, Thompson was in another room because he needed sleep.)

3. Romney pulled a dirty trick in Michigan on McCain -— they made a deal for McCain to give his concession speech, then Romney, so they would not overlap -— Romney lied, waited for McCain to start, then started his speech, so as to knock McCain off the air.

Romney is just a sleazeball, or has allowed himself to be surrounded by sleazeballs.
Keep it Classy, Romney

Well, that seems to be the case. Right now the McCainiacs and the Huck-o-phites all all flaming Fred for staying in and stealing their thunder.

Geesh, this whole race is just too kooky.

So at this point, I'm rooting for Romney. That's what my political life has been reduced to.

Anybody but McCain. Anybody but McCain. Anybody but McCain.

Vote for the most conservative candidate.

All this tactical voting does is help liberals think they have mandates.

"In fact, I see fewer chest beaters on FR announcing stay at home plans now than I did in 2000."

I haven't done an authoritative survey of pronunciations of intent (and I'd love to see something that supports your contention), but I was going to comment to the exact opposite of yours.

This year, more than any other, I've seen the frustration in folks, both here at FreeRepublic and elsewhere, at a campaign cycle that seems out of control. The drive-bys claim that we are all so uncommitted and uncertain of who we wish to support, but I've seen clear and unambiguous support for Hunter and Thompson since the very start.

The reason for their support is simple - these two men are Conservatives who will defend, support, and advance conservative principles. The rest are merely accommodations. I do not use the term RINO, but rather would point out that they are moderate Republicans, NOT Conservatives.

So they've picked their champions and, despite all the gloom & doom offered up by the drive-bys and advocates for other candidates, have stuck by them. Now comes the wave of calls for Fred to quit (note that all this speculation is coming from outside the Fred campaign, not from within). Fred supporters are being chided to pick some "lesser evil" and instead they are vowing to sit it out or write him in.

I have never seen this level of determination before. Call it what you will - I call it determination. There are a dozen posts on this thread alone. "If he’s out, then I’m out." "I will not vote for any candidate but Thompson." "I will write Fred’s name in, if I have to." "Fred is my pick and that’s it." "If Thompson goes, I go to. It’ll be Lib v. Lib in November."

I don't know if they're idle words for the others, but I remain resolute - I picked my candidate and didn't settle when I did. I won't settle now.

Should the time come when Fred bows out, I will bow out as well. If I am directed by the parties to vote for a liberal(D) or vote for a liberal(R), I will write in a vote for a conservative. Screw the parties. Screw compromise.

Vote for the most conservative candidate.

I will, of course, but if it's down to McCain, Romney, Guiliani, and Huck, who the hell is "the most conservative candidate" in that sorry group?

By the time it gets to my state (NJ), I worry that it may be down to McCain.

He's as loopy as Britney Spears.
