Thompson To Drop Out [Vanity]

Posted on 01/21/2008 8:13:53 AM PST by PurpleMan

Just heard on Laura Ingram (quoting Carl Cameron of FoxNews) that Thompson will drop out tomorrow.

Bad results, ill mother....

“Is Thompson still in the race? Who knew?”

Yeah, Thompson is the guy who wiped the floor with Romney in South Carolina, even after Romney spent millions in the state.

That would create a terrible dilemma for conservatives with no conservative candidate left in the race.

I read on another thread from yesterday a Freeper saying "Romney is conservative enough for me" (you could fill the names Guiliani, Huckabee or McCain and the idea is the same). I thought to myself: There is the problem. The conservative movement seems to have gone off the tracks with weak-kneed individuals who will accept mediocrity in the form of candidates who are not only marginally not conservative, but absolutely liberal.

It's a very sad state of affairs that takes me back to the pre-Reagan era.

But all is not lost. Freedom and liberty require eternal vigilance and conservatives can take back the party.

Let the fight begin.

Fox & Friends (or Huck & Friends, as I call them) jokingly admitted this morning that they made Huckabee for having him on the show so much. My only joy in McCain’s win is that the Huck will soon be exiting the stage. Hallelujah!

today is a bit of a bummer for me.

First, I’m not convinced Fred Thompson ever meant to run. He failed to get the required signatures here in Delaware and his people were invited to a local GOP event. They showed up when the thing was almost over. The pubbie chairman said they showed no enthusiasm.

This was a while ago and on some thread or another I posted about on Freerepublic and the Fredheads liked to kill me. Well hell, I liked Fred too but what happened was what happened but somehow I ended being the bad guy.

At any rate, I am disappointed and a bit confused. I really liked Fred but he showed no enthusiasm and I wonder if he, or people in his surround, told him that he didn’t have a chance.

While I, and many others, listen to my beloved Rush Limbaugh who assures us almost daily that true conservatism works almost every time it’s tried.

Rush, I must sadly assume, is wrong about that. For Fred Thompson tried the closest thing to true conservatism I’ve seen in a while and it didn’t work for him.

Further, Rush, and the Great One, Levin, bashed both MCCain and Huckabee a lot this past week but neither of the attacks put a dent in either McCain or Huckabee’s results.

I feel as if everything I thought was once true has turned black. I can almost understand Huckabee. He’s new, personable, has a good sense of humor. But McCain? Here’s a guy with a nasty temper, a true RINO who voted against tax cuts sheesh what kind of Republican is that? Not to mention his horrible McCain/Feingold attack on the first ammendment and his love of amnesty for illegal lawbreakers.

So even with Rush and Levin beating the hell out of McCain, and God knows FreeRepublic is a huge conservative web site and few Freepers can stomach McCain...it seems that these so-called “new media” hurt MCCain a whit. The man is WINNING the Republican primary and I’m bitter.

Ah well, I’ll get over it. But I’m very disappointed and the truth, as the saying goes....hurts.

Fred said he wanted to be President, too, (I was all for it!) but his actions didn’t back it up. So “it’s word” is not necessarily “it’s word.”

You hit the nail on the head. With life being good, people tend to be repelled by the serious.

Sad to say that memories of 1980 are so short. It took Carter with high interest rates, inflation and the old misery index to bring Reagan, perhaps we have to do it all over again.

Irony is the ones who don’t pay attention are the very ones who can least afford to go back down that road. Self inflicted wounds are the hardest, but lessons must be learned over and over again it seems.

Lather, rinse, repeat...

However this maybe premature, none of my contacts seem to know anything about Fred dropping yet. So we shall see...

If that’s true, it will be very interesting, and telling, who Thompson endorses.

I sure hope it isn’t true. The race is just starting. Open primaries don’t yield the same results as closed. Suspend campaigning if you must, Fred, but don’t give up all hope. Huckabee or McCain could self-sabotage in the twinkling of an eye.

Just heard on Glenn Beck that a poll has Romney ahead in Florida. Glenn says the msm will now call for Romney to drop out. How pathetic the race is becoming....

I want to know when McCain’s stalking horse Huckabee, who’s broke and apparently can’t pay staffers, is going to get out and who HE is going to endorse.

I think she might.

The GOP seems intent on suicide.

I wouldn’t vote for any of those left.

For me, Romeny is a very distant last, behind the entire human race and most animals. Maybe underneath the same pile of whale droppings as Hillary.

I read on another thread from yesterday a Freeper saying "Romney is conservative enough for me"

Romney talks the talk. Depending on who he's talking to and when.

Is he also positioning himself for a VP selection?

If McCain gets the GOP nomination, Fred would have to wrestle Lindsey for the #2 stop. lol.
