Let’s hope the help comes too late. If all Fred Thompson managed to do was sink Mike Huckabee, we will have to be satisfied with that.

Frankly, I cannot fathom the mind of somebody who would go from supporting Thompson to supporting Huckabee. It just does not make any sense.

I can't either unless it is a southern pride thing that most of us who live north of the Mason-Dixon line just couldn't understand.

I really wish Fred would have stayed in until at least Super Tuesday. But it is entirely possible that he is angling for the VP slot as a sop to conservatives and getting out now leaves him with the opportunity to unite the party, thereby earning the appreciation of the eventual nominee.

The author of this piece is one of the better political writers for our local fishwrap which, in turn, is a better newspaper, by far, than the dinosaur mass media. She is also a regular Freeper from what I understand.

The lesser of three evils.

I think it's total BS. The fact that (unfortunately) there weren't that many of us Fredheads means that we were with Fred for a reason, and that reason was his conservative reasonableness.

No reasonable person, of any persuasion, let alone conservative, would have any reason to vote for a shyster huckster Elmer Gantry snake-oil salesman.

No sense at all. I'm not sure where I go from here, but it ain't toward Huckabee.

“Frankly, I cannot fathom the mind of somebody who would go from supporting Thompson to supporting Huckabee. It just does not make any sense.”

I agree. Thompson was the thinking conservatives’ choice, and the smart money now is on the Republican who has the best chance of beating Hussein Obama or Hillary. I think that could be McCain or Mitt, but not Huckabee-he’s the Democrats choice.

It also does not make any sense for Thompson supporters to support McCaniac.

If I support anyone in the future it will be Mitt Romney as the next best candidate.

At least Romney has not in my knowledge stabbed his fellow party member in the back on several occasions.

It's a Democrat operative who said that. Huck is their dream candidate.

I agree it makes no sense. It seems to me Romney benefits most because it seems to me he and Fred have been splitting the same voters.

Let’s hope...

Democratic strategist John Napp is certainly HOPING that Fred's support goes to Huckabee.

The Democrats would be absolutely orgasmic with glee should Huckabee win the GOP nominations.

Can anyone just picture CNN, CBS, ABC, NPR, BBC -- doing story after story about Huckabee's wanting to "change the US Constitution to fit God's Constitution" or whatever it was the Huckster said last week.

A Huckabee win would validate every fear and stereotype the uber-lib media and Christian-phobes imagined about the Republicans the past 85 years.

WHITE HOUSE THEOCRACY --- Preaching from the Oval Office..... I can just hear it now!!!

Well wouldn’t you by a sense of sheer pragmatism jump to the next most conservative candidate?

The FR poll shows over 15% "moving to Romney", only 1.5% "moving to Huckabee", the least movement of all.

That disparity must reflect movement of Fred supporters, who are the most numerous group here for any candidate.

So, enjoy!

Most conservatives don’t have any idea about Huck’s liberal fiscal side.

All they know is his view on abortion etc. Hence, I can imagine MANY, MANY who support Thompson just switching to Huck without thinking.

Most Republicans are not on FR and frankly have never even heard of us.

I am going to switch to Romney I think despite his Mormonism, which sucks. But, he seems to be the next best candidate.

MEGA PING!, Huckster is not a conservative nor does he have much going for him in the rest of the race.
