The last few years I’ve though of Mitt as an unaware Canary in the Republican Coal Mine. Mitt prospering isn’t so much Mitt as the decayed nature of Republicans and their leadership. Nature abhors a vacuum.
Anyways, the Whigs went, I don’t see why the Republicans shouldn’t go. Being Democrat/Socialist lite isn’t a reason.

One point supposedly in McCain’s favor is that he would be strong in the WOT. How can this be when he wants to ban all interrogation techniques, including water boarding?? Just how does he propose that we glean information from terrorists that can save American lives? On this issue he sounds almost as bad as most Dems.

To lose on purpose is a ridiculous strategy...it worked well in the 2006 elections didn't itI also believe some think that we can bring about the next Reagan by having a Carter redux. Recall, however, that Carter had little support even from his own party. That will not be the case in 2008 if HRC or Obama wins the Presidency.
This kind of thinking is, in some ways, similar to those who believe that the great imam will pop out of his well if they purposely make things bad enough.

If the last Clinton Administration is any indicator of what Hillary would do regarding nation building military adventures overseas then you need not worry. Bill Clinton had a few of his own and in fact wanted to attack Iraq even before the 2000 primaries and did bomb the hell out of em.. He will advise her...He also proposed the Patriot Act...both actions that were stopped by the GOP Congress while we cheered them for doing so.

Perhaps one day when I’m old and gray I’ll look back on this day and realize I was wrong. Until then, and just like another poster said, I’d rather have an enemy in front of me than one behind me.
I’m either going to enjoy the election from my couch, or write Fred Thompson on the ballot.

Yes, but surrendering to the enemy in front of you is worse than surrendering to the enemy behind you.
To: Graybeard58
The field of candidates from both parties is a complete disaster. No kidding. 2008 is looking like the "booby prize" election year for both major parties. Third Party candidates could have a much larger draw than previously anticipated.

If the system worked we would have some real conservative candidates instead of the phonies who can’t even act conservative. Where are the real conservatives?

The Supreme Court would be reason enough to prevent another Ruth Bader Ginsburg. McCain has stated that he likes Ruth Ginsburg.
Tell me again how putting him in the President's office is any different than a Dem???

Got this in an email. Can you relate?
Electile Dysfunction: the inability to become aroused over any of the choices for president put forth by either party in the 2008 election year.
There is no cure, now that Fred is gone.
