Kamikaze Republicanism
TownHall ^ | January 28, 2008 | Wynton C. Hall

Some unsatisfied Republican voters, especially conservative ones, have threatened to sit out the Republican primary in protest. Indeed, within GOP circles it is not uncommon that one may hear the refrain, "I'd rather have Hillary or Obama win and start fresh than to vote for a RINO (Republican in Name Only) or some half-committed conservative."

Rants of frustration such as these, while understandable, are baseless

We need to fight this one like it's our last hope.

Because it probably is.

Agreed. If Hillary/Obama get into office, it’s all over...

Personally, I won’t vote for McCain. John McCain stands against everything this board was founded for - personal liberty and justice. It’s inviting the liberal fox into our hen house and I will not join along.

The field of candidates from both parties is a complete disaster.

Republicans and conservatives (as should now be clear, they are not always one and the same) need to do as Ronald Reagan did and settle on a few major goals and stick to them.

Nice idea. But I'm not sure that Republicans have any ideas that I, as a conservative, can support.

I understand the frustration but the Supreme Court appointments alone are enough to prevent ANY of the Democrats from becoming POTUS.

RINO appointments would be better than a bunch of Ruth Buzzie Ginsbergs on the bench.

I share your disappointment, but I am persuaded by the Commander-in-Chief arguments. If another terrorist attack occurs, and Hillary/Obama, are at the helm, the country—and our men and women in uniform—will be in incredible danger.

That’s a price I’m unwilling to pay.

I agree.

The Supreme Court would be reason enough to prevent another Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Actually, I’m voting in the primary. Chances are that I am writing in for the general election.

Patton said something once about the French that may be what you were looking for:

“I’d rather have two German Divisions in front of me, than three French ones behind me.”

Illegal immigration is a terrorist attack.

I do not share your optimism. For example, a review of Romney's appointments gives me no warm and fuzzy feeling about what he would do as president.

I need to take a look at Romney’s record on that. Thanks for pointing that out.

“It’s inviting the liberal fox into our hen house and I will not join along.”

If having McCain or Romney is the best we can hope for, it’s all over already and the last thing to do is revolt.

I agree with you. I cannot vote for McCain after fighting the amnesty bill. I just can’t.

Truthfully, I just do not like the man.
