Oh great- and do we see the spectre of a McCain/Rudy ticket?

This is a nightmare.

McCain is old. Lets hope he picks a conservative VP.

Fat Chance of that! His ego would never let him pick a VP who is smarter than him. Keep clicking those heels together.

You are exactly right Dog. Hillary!/Obama is a horrible combination; McCain/Giuliani is not much better. I’ll have to hold my nose. McCain?????

I am an AMERICAN first, a conservative second, and a Republican third. A fluke of circumstances, weak candidates, MSM fawning, and a substantial minority of uninformed GOP primary voters have conspired to make Sen. McCain the presumptive GOP frontrunner.

John McCain not only supported and promoted amnesty for illegal aliens, he CONTINUES to do so with a wink and a nod to the liberal media and editorial boards. I have no doubt that if he becomes President, in addition to sabotaging conservatives at every turn, he will DESTROY both the GOP AND the country by legalizing 20 million plus illegals PLUS the 100 million more immigrants to come via chain migration. This will demographically destroy the country as we know it.

The fact that his apologists constantly mention how he was for the surge, is nominally pro-life, and against excessive spending are nice but SECONDARY to me as a conservative. On the most important issues, from taxes to judges to immigration, he is a PANDERER AND A LIBERAL. Iraq, abortion, and spending are also irrelevant if you no longer have a country, and his support for amnesty is a DEALBREAKER. Period.

Depressing and sickening.

“It will be interesting to watch, people grasping for straws of arguments to encourage a support of Democrat (R) over Democrat (D) in the General Election. It will all be an illusion that somehow this will ensure and bring us back to TRADITIONAL REAGAN CONSERVATISM in this country.”

There is no way I will vote for McCain in the General Election IF he happens to become the Republican nominee. I must keep hoping that Mitt Romney will win the nomination!

It appears that the election in November will be a choice between two insufferable, imperious douche bags, Hillary and McStain.

It was a nice country while it lasted.

The thing I hate the most about them is the condescending tone that they use when speaking to us. It's like we're a bunch of f___ing 2-year-olds and they are going to set us straight. It's apparent to me that the vaunted American sense of self-reliance is a thing of the past. Both parties are advancing nanny-staters to be their standard bearers. McCain will be the second coming of Richard Nixon if he gets elected. A big-government Rockefeller Republican. Every time he invokes the name of Ronald Reagan it makes me want to puke. I just can't imagine listening to his stupid sing-song delivery and his maniacal giggles for the next four years.

No matter who will be the next President, all the Bush bashers and haters on our side will be crying their eyes out in 2 years and saying "Where are you President Bush, you were really a great President and we miss you a lot". God bless President Bush.

Conservatives abandoned the President after the 2004 election and we are paying for it now. Whoever was behind the illegal immigration debate accomplished their mission...trash the President every chance and splinter the Republican Party. Congratulations to them and all their supporters.

(I don't sound bitter do I?)

Right on. Right now I feel dispirited but it’s not all over just yet. On to the next challenge the silver lining in all of this is that half the delegates in Florida were lost thanks to the RNC which helped soften the blow.

I don’t know if McCain can beat Obama.

Can't you just see McCain the elder sitting beside Osama for debates? Even my grown daughter has been saying she would like to vote for Obama because he is so young, vibrant and optimistic. And I have taught her to be a conservative. Fact is, he is infectious. McCain is a bitter, angry, self centered man.
