I was an avid Duncan Hunter supporter. I was thrilled to find a candidate I could vote FOR instead of against. I was very disappointed that(IMOHO)he was thrown under the bus by the drivebys and his own party and forced to drop out.

Then, in a lesser of evils scenario, I considered Fred for a few minutes until he dropped out.

I used to joke about Ron Paul. But facing such a field of pretenders, I had to take another look.

The choices I am left with are abysmal. My guy endorsed Huckabee. While I enjoy his 2A stance and pro-life leanings, I just can’t get around all the pardons and the dollar a month rent deal on the Mexican Consulate, which was done, as I understand it, to aid Tyson in acquiring a cheap labor pool. I didn’t support him in the beginning because his initial claim to fame was losing a couple hundred pounds or something like that and being from Hope.
Been there, done that. To me, he is a mixture of a semi-clean Bill Clinton, and Elmer Gantry.

Giuliani’s big thing is 9/11 and national security. I understand he was successful as Mayor of New York City, no small feat, but he is a gun grabber. National security and gungrabbing are diametrically opposed, just like WOT and open borders.

What about John McCain? His conservative cred comes from the media, who seem to adore him. Ah. John McCain. The “Maverick” Republican Senator. The “Comeback Kid”.
The war hero who paid his dues at the Hanoi Hilton and served his country all his life.

But my dear friends, let us not forget Keating 5, Gang of 14, CFR, and Comprehensive Immigration Reform, which, let me remind you again my friends, is not amnesty.

Nevermind.

The best one of the bunch is Romney. But is that really saying so much? I remember the flip flop on abortion. Maybe it really was an honest change of heart. But then there are his business connections. I’m hearing way too much about China to suit me.

Again I decide to look at Ron Paul. He seems to be good on 2A. Definitely a pro-lifer. Doesn’t believe in judges legislating from the bench. Hates the UN, doesn’t believe in hate crimes, wants to explore nuclear energy and drilling at home. Wants to repeal most federal drug laws, so he’s definitely not a nanny stater. Doesn’t believe in reverse discrimination, AKA affirmative action. He is against illegal immigration, disastrous free trade and LOST.

How could Ron Paul possibly be that much worse than the others?

Maybe that explains my optimism. I don’t have a TV :-)

“With all due respect Sun the problem with that line of thinking is now you are accepting harm whereas before you were staunchly against such a concept. Allowing some harm only begets more harm and is precisely the rationalization that finds the GOP in its current predicament.”

My friend, you are talking to someone who was once a committeperson of a third party.

I have learned by my mistakes.

In NYS former Attorney General Dennis Vacco, a pro-life, conservative, took the advice of his silly campaign manager, and did not seek the endorsement of the NYS Right-to-Life Party. Even though I KNEW Vacco was pro-life, I was so mad at him, I used my emotions, and voted for the NYS RTL guy, who didn’t have a chance.

Well, you know what? He lost by the number of votes on the NYS RTL Party line. Well he deserves it you might say for listening to his silly campaign manager. Maybe so. HOWEVER, LIBERAL, PRO-ABORTION, ANTI-BUSINESS, PRO-GAY “MARRIAGE,” anti-CONSTITUTION, Eliot Spitzer became the Attorney General, and now is the Governor of New York State.

All because of voters, like me, who used emotions, rather than common sense. I won’t make that kind of mistake again.

We are conservatives. This great Republican Party is our historical house. This is our home. Senator Barry Goldwater struck a cord at the 1960 Republican convention when he withdrew his name from nomination for the presidency. His words resounded over the next four years to encourage conservatives to join the fight, to make that home comfortable.

>>I don’t think the third party option is the way to go. You have to repair the mess from within.”

This will never be repaired from within. The power base has been solidified and there is way too much influence and money.

I’m game for a conservative movement, but who is this fella and is HE suggesting a run or recruiting a candidate?

Then I would suggest more reading here on the Internet. I do the same. I don’t use TV to get my news any more.

I don’t think the third party option is the way to go. You have to repair the mess from within.

You cannot repair a rotten apple, you have to grow a fresh one.

You think you can repair a corrupt party from the inside?

I got inside for a while 20 years ago. Was repulsed at what I saw, ignored at every turn and finally expelled by the liberal old guard leadership. Don't waste your time and energy working yourself into despondency.

Work the field, plant the seed, and nourish a healthy new party on the foundation of the Constitution.

He’ll probably want to dismantle the FedGov too quickly, not giving the states or the people any time to adjust.

Another thing is he gives other countries the benefit of the doubt. “Ah yes, Mr. President, this is President Ahemdinejad calling to affirm our friendship. Yes, have a good day my friend.” Do not want

Another thing is what does he define as ‘arms’. Could I own an M4 for just $500? Or would he continue the Class III BS.

He just doesn’t understand the threat posed from more than one country overseas. Nevermind that, the threat that Mexico poses. He also doesn’t believe in NAFTA/CAFTA last I remember, I don’t mean that he doesn’t believe it will happen, I mean he doesn’t believe there’s a conspiracy to join Mexico, the US and Canada in the NAU.

Poor name choice. Falcon party? I have visions of little boys making goggles with their fingers and singing "Junior Birdmen".
I'd prefer Conservative or Free Republican myself ;o)

One thing I forgot about is how he said in a nutshell that terrorism is OUR fault just for being over there.

That sounds just like the terrorists themselves, or some of the Code Pink types. I remember being shocked that he said it, because he does not get that the Muslims want to rule the world, regardless of whether or not we are on their turf.

I was going to write in Hunter, but the race is so close now between McCain and Romney that every vote might me critical to prevent McCain from being nominated.

At this point, I am voting against McCain, but I just can’t figure out how to do it with a clean conscience.

I agree wholeheartedly with much of what Ron Paul believes in, but I’m having a hard time with the blaming of America.

I don’t trust Mitt for all the usual reasons. I don’t trust any of them. I am wondering if I might just stay home to avoid the possibility of my vote making things even worse! Who do I waste my vote on to keep McCain out? Is it even possible to stop the BS Express at this point? Even if we have a brokered convention, they still might shove him down our throats.

I voted in the Florida Primary. Did not vote for Thompson because I wanted to stop McCain. I am talking about the general, now. Will not vote for illegal aliens, no matter which party their good friend is nominated by.

Thanks for the ping. I’m only about half way through the article. This guy is a good writer.

Once chided by his GOP opponents for “voodoo economics”, Reagan changed the entire landscape of that debate.
***Actually, it was George Bush Senior who said that, and Reagan chose him for VP.

.... But that agenda has been largely abandoned by the Republicans anyway. ‘A Thousand Points of Light’, a ‘Kinder, Gentler Nation’, ... and ‘Compassionate Conservatism’ all pointed to a direction away from conservative principles.
***And all were authored by George Bush, whether senior or junior.

I will start a new list, if Madison follows through and gets a website. I think he will. There will certainly be some duncanistas on it, I reckon.

He isn’t too much worse, but he has been all over the map on abortion and is a johnny come lately to border security, in addition to his *unusual* pelosi-esque stance on the war against the jihadis.

Other than that, he’s perfect. LOL
