I respectfully disagree.

Those who stayed home in '06 were sick of the out of control spending, and too many moral issues to name.

The Republicans as a party were so off track that they derailed themselves.

Which is why it makes me laugh that these McCainiacs think that only the “fringe” won’t vote for McCain and that their votes won’t matter. It’s pretty evident that when the Republican base gets apathetic and disgusted, they stay home and don’t vote. You can see what happened in 2006 as a demonstration. No amount of squishy independent vote is going to overcome that.

The ‘06 Republican defeat was the fault of the fringe voters who stayed home and allowed the dims to win just as some here are suggesting will be done with this year’s election. The Republican leadership is smart enough to not allow that to happen again. New voters must be brought into the party to replace the extremists on the right that would see this country devastated by a Clinton presidency.
