Leftist Antiwar Propaganda Goes Mainstream in New Hampster
Monadnock Shopper News ^ | January 30. 2008 | John Zanes

It may be the difference between fantasy and reality or simply the effect of persons who have never experienced a situation imagining what it may be like. I refer to the matter of assuming that any and all of the persons on active military duty are heroes, serving gallantly. If I were counting, I would have run out of fingers already this year, counting the references I have heard to gallant and heroic service. This means, simply, active duty. Some of the people who use such terminology have done active military duty. Most haven’t...

The British Empire had a standing army, as does our empire. Not “citizen soldiers” as we like to say...

It is pretty gruesome to cheerfully send bunches of kids off to hazard, “harm’s way,” as our President has called it, even with a mix of older professionals. Perhaps, if we had the needed draft, citizens generally might think more carefully about threatening other countries. Or cheerfully approving ”wars.” [quotes sic]

I offer this as an example of how NH is becoming Vermont East with stunning speed. This is from an editorial by a former English teacher who (in other issues) has asserted that Saudi Arabia has a more equal distribution of wealth than the U.S. and its public decapitations are no worse than American capital punishment. These appear in a free throwaway shoppers' tabloid in Keene, NH. The publisher (perhaps sarcastically) says the paper is devoted to "God, motherhood, and country." This paper makes its money from ads from small businesses, many of whom probably don't know that they are now helping spread anti-American, anti-military propaganda.

Do any FReepers, especially in New Hampshire, know practical ways to combat this cancer?

Google "masshole."

Keene is not really the area which is a virtual suburb of Taxachusetts. The problem is that it is a college town and quite close to VT. It’s shocking to see this area turning from the last Republican stronghold in the northeast into not just Demonrat turf, but a bastion of the treasonous moonbat left.

You got the name wrong, it’s the North-Eastern Sector of the People’s Republic of Vermontachusetts.

Quick story. The local rag aka, Portsmouth Herald, had been getting nasty letters and was printing them. one reader called Carol Che Porter a few derogatory names and all of a sudden, the world ended. They printed at least two editorials on how we have to elevate the discussion and tone down the rhetoric. This was after they printed about six months of lies, distortions and personal attacks about Jeb Bradley, the man Che beat out. I pointed that out and they still continued to print slanderous lies about everything Republican, but the letters from the right had ended. And about once a week, we have a guy that sends in a letter about how much Republicans are all idiots, mentally inferior, weak minded, and destined to be crushed by Hillary and her wave of freedom and liberalism. The hate pours out of him like water from a faucet. And they still keep printing it. I’ve submitted four letters since December critical of Hillary and Karol Che and the somehow never make it to print. The editor of the opinion page has actually stated he uses Media Matters and Oblermann as a primary source.

For those of you in the Free State Project, please start looking elsewhere. NH is destined to become like every other NE state before too long.

This same paper, the Monadnock Shopper News, recently carried a large ad by a truther group, offering prizes for the best composition on 9/11.

Anyway, I'm still looking for suggestions on how to make the paper uncomfortable about continuing to publish leftist propaganda. After all, many of their advertisers don't support that agenda.

Seems that is the way lots of America is going. Like I said, 2/3 of Americans are brain dead. They are the leaches that consume the rewards but want someone else to do the hard work saving our Land.

I refer to Keene State U. as the People's Autonomous Academic Oblast of Keene.

This little rag, the Monadnock Shopper News, used to get a few letters opposing the leftist line of this editor, but now they basically censor any opposition. Typical leftist totalitarian tactics.

Here in South Carolina I had a coworker who was a real Masshole. Said New Hampshire was as full of rightwing gun-toting rednecks as S.C., just that the KKK wasn’t as strong up there as here.

I ran into him when I was deployed to Uzbekistan 03-04. He had all his food mailed in, said the messhall chow was adulterated with mind-altering drugs to make us all believe that GWB was right about Iraq.

I swear I’m not making any of this up.

The best way to get their attention is tell them you are calling all their advertisers and tell them you’re not going to shop at their establishment

I'm seriously considering moving to the lower left corner of New Hampshire (from Connecticut)... Is the breakdown of intelligence and civility in that part of the state mainly concentrated in and around the colleges in Keene and Hanover, or is the entire area now permeated with such nonsense?

(Maybe there are some strange rays coming from the nuclear power plant up thataways - that might very well explain various and sundry foolish Brattleboro phenomena such as the impeachment resolution)...

That’s an obvious answer, which occurred to me. The problem is that they have scores of advertisers. No single one has much clout. It’s ironic that they get large ads from the local hospitals, yet they regularly publish columns on quack therapies like homeopathy (one of the few theories even more hokie than Global Warming). The fascination with”alternative medicine” is another example of the spread of Vermont-style countercultural looniness.

Frankly, I would not recommend moving to NH any more. As I said, the place is going downhill with stunning speed. If you insist on moving, look at election results and avoid any place carried by the Demonrats in recent elections. Such places are hard to find, since the whole state went Demon in the last election, including the State Legislature for the first time in ages. That’s the result of 8 years of Bush wimpiness and Congressional Republican venality. There never was much social conservatism in NH, and now the fiscal conservatives see that the Pubbies stand for nothing. Things will just get worse under a Romney or McCain admin.

I visited Brattleboro last year, and some public building had many crosses displayed in the yard, purporting to represent American casualties in Iraq. Amazing how effectively the Leftist propaganda machine has made people forget about the thousands of innocent civilians killed on 9/11.

NH is just too close to the corrupt Left strongholds of NYC and Boston. Liberals are loaded with money, and they come here and buy "vacation" and "retirement" homes. Then they vote for more school expenditures, and taxes keep rising.

hellbender,

You’ve hit the nail on the head....keep trying to convert them to reality tho’ will you! My kids learned to ski on Mt. Monadnock (ski instructor-George Albu, a true saint of a man, remember him?), and often visited relatives on lake Monamanock(sp?)...of course back then the friends, picnics, etc were trully conservative people...so keep at’m, it’s worth saving!
