Mitt Flip-Flop on Reagan (Romney: "I'm not trying to return to Reagan")
Patterico's Pontifications ^ | Jan. 30, 2008

Posted on 01/31/2008 9:02:43 PM PST by jdm

Here’s a fun little video of a younger Mitt saying he’s not trying to return to the Reagan/Bush era, as he was an independent at that time:

Here’s Mitt from tonight:

[W]e’re in the house that Reagan built. It’s important that we, as Republicans, stay in the house that Reagan built. If we want to take the White House again, social, economic and foreign policy conservatives have to come together.

. . . .

I would be with Ronald Reagan. And this party, it has a choice, what the heart and soul of this party is going to be, and it’s going to have to be in the house that Ronald Reagan built.

Now watch the video again.

It’s short, and perhaps it’s ripped out of context. It’s hard to imagine how context could help much — but you never know.

UPDATE: The same YouTube poster has an effective little video showing Mitt supporting a woman’s right to choose — time and time and time again:

He kept his promises.

He has made promises to us.

McNutcase is a backstabber and in his words: “a dear friend of Hillary Clinton.”

Posting a video of Romney 14-years ago...Quite the improvement!!

Romney has come into his own as of late. His past 2 debate performances have been spectacular.

It’s been posted for the last 12 months...over and over again, along with every other non-conservative or contradictory thing that Romney has ever said. It’s called then and now. Frankly, I look at this video and think, wow, this guy has made progress, he’s grown wiser with age. Reagan was a Democrat in 1962, and a Republican office-holder in 1966. Reagan was a pro-abortion governor in 1967, and a pro-life icon in 1980. Change is possible. But, that’s just my opinion.

Mitt HAS been trying to return to Regan. I wish Mitt would take the gloves off and talk through the media
John ‘McMeximericanada’ McCain is a nightmare.

If it comes down to Clinton or McCain,
I will NOT be voting for president this year.

If Romney is indeed a phony, and he winds up being as liberal as McCain, then at the very least he won’t also happen to be crazy.

P.S. Why are you attacking a guy for turning a corner and turning into quite an impressive leader? You don’t see McCain even trying to emulate Reagan or traditional conservative values.

And if you’re posting this flip-flop, I guess you’ve commented on the one McCain made on his amnesty bill in the past 5 days???

Mitt was a great leader back in 1994; a business leader. And he's a great leader in 2008: a business leader.

I don't doubt his excellence and success as a business leader. There's no question about that.

But whether he'll make a good President?...

He's much more liberal than McCain.

A vote for McCain is a vote for the second coming of Lyndon Johnson (father of "The Great Society.") Wouldn't your rather have at least one Republican to choose from next November?

The probability is that McCain will lose the general election. There are tens of millions of conservaties who will not vote for him. His nomination will probably destroy the Republican Party. And if he actually wins the general election, the destruction of the GOP will be a certainty, since the coalition will be irrevocably split asunder.

McConan the "Republican"? Just say NO!

I look at the choices in the Republican Party right now and I only see various flavors of Jerry Ford, Bob Dole, and Jimmy Carter.

Ok that’s it. Mitt can’t be trusted. If he becomes Pres. he will flip flop the US into a monarchy with him as King. Or a Soviet style gulag with him as Czar. We are doomed if he gets in! We must stop this conniving potential potentate!
