Unless he wins in California, Romney has lost EVERY key battleground state. There is no path to the nomination for Willard left.

All he has become is McCain's stalking horse, dividing the conservative vote and allowing McCain to beat Huckabee.

you will see. Mccain will probably pick Fred and keep the conservatives with him, all 3 legs of the stool, and still keep his appeal with the independents. That is how Mccain will have the best chance to win in the general.

Explain to me your definition of “key battleground state” and why it doesn’t seem to include Michigan.

huckabee will pave the way for a Fred pick as VP.

If huckabee was not in the race, romney would still be 2nd but there would be no appeal to social conservatives.
If romney was not in the race, there would be no voice for the people who care deeply about immigration
Fred could bring back both camps together. Not perfectly but combined with mccain’s appeal to independents and security hawks, mccain would have the best chance of any GOP candidate to win

Huckabee isn’t pulling down any battleground states either. That’s the problem. If Huckasbee had won a few more southern states he might actually have a chance. But he couldn’t win Missouri, which was a winner-take-all.

What is clear is that, not knowing which candidate would get the 2nd-place votes of each candidate, you can’t tell WHO was who’se nemesis. I think you’d find that a lot of Romney voters would switch to McCain, because they are more serious voters who are looking for a man who can step into the presidency.

But I could be wrong. For every crappy thing McCain has done, Huckabee has been worse. So who knows where those delegates go.

WHen Huckabee abandoned Florida, he gave up his chance at being President. Now he’s just going through the motions.
