A pledge to never vote for McCain (Vanity)
February 5, 2008 | Tree of Liberty

Posted on 02/05/2008 10:11:11 PM PST by Tree of Liberty

If the unfortunate possibility of a McCain nomination comes to pass, I will not work for his election to the presidency, nor will I defend him in ad hoc conversations. He is wholly unworthy for that high office, and it is intolerable for my conscience to abide supporting him.

I will face two options once in the voting booth: 1) cast my ballot for a third party candidate, or 2) simply not vote in the presidential election.

I am curious who among you share my sentiments.

Thanks.

Well, since most people in the country aren’t political junkies like us, our best bet is to do some serious reconstruction work on the GOP. My dear mom, who doesn’t have a computer, watches CBS and reads the newspaper, knew nothing about Hillary, Bill, Gore or Kerry unless I told her.

Because it wasn’t in the MSM. Like it or not, a huge percentage of the voting population is only nominally informed. We show up and make a lot of the “inside baseball” stuff go, but so many average people are so completely clueless. (”Oh, Obama has such a nice smile, and little Caroline Kennedy endorsed him!”)

"I cannot in good conscience not cast my vote against the Democrat in a time of war."

I can understand that. I may be breaking out the clothespin to try and vote for McCain. But why do we keep bringing in RINOS just to beat people who in principle are not very different. How long can we last as a republic that way?

We certainly agree on this, and, I would risk saying, in most political notions. However, even in something so important as the GWOT, Clinton might be preferable.

In a tortured corollary to the idea that "only Nixon can go to China," Clinton could not politically afford to be weak in response to Islam, lest every concern over her ability to defend the country be proven legitimate.

McCain, conversely, is to mentally unstable to count on an appropriate execution of the War. Furthermore, there are the previously mentioned issues of 'torture' and gitmo, as well as his disdain for defense contractors. That contempt threatens the research and development of future projects intended to offer greater offensive and defensive capabilities to the country. While Clinton exhibits a similar disquieting position, Republicans in congress can more easily and successfully demand the funding of those projects than they would be able to in a McCain administration.

Not in the eyes of AQ. She’s their choice.

Ya gotta wonder why... they didn’t issue videos applauding the 2006 election of so many Dems because they thought the Dems would make life harder for them in Iraq and Afghanistan.

They supported the 06 results because they knew they’d be able to roll right over them and truly get a foothold in Iraq if they ever took the White House.

No thanks.

How does one undo THAT?!

McCain will not get my vote, no matter who the other candidates are.

This is true for myself and five other registered voters in my household.

The RNC best be paying attention because this is quite literally a train wreck for the GOP.

John McCain will never become President of the United States. PERIOD

Agreed. And he’s not only aiming to change the country ... he’s looking to change the world.

Unacceptable.

The democrats have backstabbed our troops on the battlefield.

Anybody remember the immediate reactions from our deployed troops in November 2006? It made me so ashamed to read them, that we could not pull it together enough to show our troops protecting US AT HOME that we could keep the Dems from taking over both houses.

It's only because of W that their funding has continued without timelines and check-ins with Granny Nancy. If we lose the White House, we truly will have betrayed them.

"Presidents do not always get what they want."

True. And it is doubly true for candidates.
If McCain were trustworthy, and were worthy of YOUR vote and your support - he would drop out of the race because only a blind man could fail to see how he's dooming the GOP.

If he were worth your anguish and your vote, he would drop out and endorse either Hunter or Thompson in order to safeguard the country.

He's not. Sorry. There is no alternative but the one on Senator McCain's plate and he should know it.

It is up to him, and he has only one honorable thing to do. For our sake, I hope your confidence in his honor is valid for if it is, he would step aside for the good of the country.

Good points, and well reasoned. However, Islam is not China. China prefers to survive as a nation. Islam, even Iran, doesn’t particularly care.

9-11 happened partially as a test of the new president. They lost in the end, but we suffered such a terrible loss in those attacks.

I cannot imagine that even if a theoretical Pres. Hillary were to kick ass after an attack in order to prove her strength... what do we need to endure to get to that place first?! You know that AQ could not possible resist such a tempting target with a woman Democrat president. Iran’s been cooking in the kitchen for a while...

Your sentiment is misplaced.

1.Wait until both nominees are certain.
2. Preventing liberal Presidents is a good thing.
3. Vote Republican ... for the JUDGES.

Thank you for that, truly. I’ve got to get some sleep too. (Plus our hamster had a jailbreak, but she’s back in now.) I have to get to work early in the morning.

Thank you for the exchanges. Good night.

I think it all boils down to two very big problems: open primaries and an ignorant "conservative" electorate.

I am of the mind right now that the GOP should start penalizing states with open primaries of their delegates, like they did the states who put their primary dates earlier than the party wanted them to.

Then there is the problem of all these people who claim to be 'very conservative' when they're really single issue voters who fall prey for the first RINO that devotes all their time to that issue.

If we lose the White House, we truly will have betrayed them.,

We will never betray our Brave Warriors. The RNC elitists knew exactly what they were doing pushing the vile, petty, vengeful McCain. They took a calculated risk and will likely cause the demos to get the W.H. Our highest obligation is to uphold the Constitution. McCain has shown absolute contempt for the our Constitution with his CFR bill. For that reason and a thousand others, he will NEVER get my vote. He would be a horrible leader in the WOT. He would close GITMO, forbid waterboarding.

McCain's vengeful, egocentric, warped personality would compel him to conduct any war in the manner of LBJ. His arrogance would cause him to override the JCS at every turn. He does not have the temperament to be President. He would likely get us into some conflict and truly get many of our Brave Warriors killed.

Haven’t you been reading the posts? McCain thinks Ginsburg is a fine judge. He likes her. He’ll nominate more just like her.

Of course he will. The Republican Party is in a meltdown, to be sure. But. When it comes to the WH, Democrats can melt like no other.

Be prepared to hear these words: “President McCain”.

Sigh. Why does the phrase, “Who is John Galt?” Keep coming to mind?

~faith.
